    1000 things you've learned from Head-Fi

    349. Headphones have been used for music for 100 years, and yet there are people who seem to believe that it's an entirely new concept.

Why no Planar-Magnetic headphones from bigger companies?

AFAIK Foster/Fostex are actually one of the larger manufacturers of headphones. And they do make planars. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

Two tricky additions:   Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen Cæcilie Norby   And some corrections:   Ketil Bjørnstad Nils Petter Molvær Kristin Asbjørnsen Nils Økland   (Never trust non-Scandinavian spellings of Scandinavian names. Never ever.)

What is the meaning of life?

For my own part, I might rephrase that to:    "I firmly believe the meaning of life is to find truth. Including both the process of seeking and the act of finding."   Quote:

    who likes neutral,who likes coloured?

I accept that some degree of colouration may be unavoidable in a headphone, but neutrality definitely is the goal that I am aiming for.

REVIEW: Fischer Audio FA-002W (OW model)

For the time being, my best headphone is the Bowers & Wilkins P5, which certainly has its merits but may not be the most neutral phone in its price range. Eventually I will buy something which allows me to get closer to the actual sound of a recording. Ultimately I want to have a real high end...

Monster Turbine Challenge - Reviewers Wanted!

Add me to the excessively long list of applicants.   I generally listen to acoustical music from a broad range of genres.   In classical music I cover the entire scope. Chronologically from medieval chant to the 21st century. In physical scale from pieces for solo flute to Mahler's...

What is your Audio Philosophy ?

A side note on burn-in. My experiences with building a wooden chassis for my headphone amplifier suggest, that play-in of the chassis may significantly change the sound reproduction. A topic that might be worth more investigation.

British Headphones? No. British Hi-Fi? Yes.

Manufacturing of headphones very often is combined with manufacturing of (one of) two other kinds of transducers: pickups and microphones, both of which seem to be equally rare in GB.

What is your Audio Philosophy ?

    1. Burn-In: Sort of. 2. Methods of burning-in (if yes, what?): Play music. 3. Termination/interconnects: Interconnects of decent mechanical quality and with golden contacts are rather inexpensive nowadays. Not a big deal. 4. Power filtering/prep: I intend to build battery power supply...

    Greatest Bass Playing...(acoustic/electric)

Nice to see Niels-Henning's name correctly spelled in an international community.   I once saw him demonstrate one of the little secrets behind his virtuosity. He had taught himself to improve speed by playing with three fingers instead of two even if there were two or four beats in a...

    Music and Math Relationship

Leibniz said it almost perfectly: "Music is the pleasure the human soul experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting."   At one perception level, music simply is numbers. Or rather the relationships between them. Loads of them. And they are immediately and easily...
