    Has anyone used this service?

http://musicgiants.com It seems too expensive to me, but it is good to see a music service offering lossless downloads. However: Quote: Originally Posted by Evil We use Microsoft Windows Media Digital Rights Management software to make sure all the music you have is fast, safe and...

Do remastered albums tend to be significantly better?

The CDs I'm looking at now are Yes - Close the the Edge and Relayer. Are the remastered versions necessarily much better? I don't care about any bonus tracks; just sound quality.

What's the safest way to connect/remove cans from an amp?

When I turn it on or off with the headphones connected, though, I hear a loud "pop." I think I read in another topic that this is bad, as well. I've noticed that there are no abnormal sounds if I turn volume to min and then connect/disconnect, though; is that the best thing to do?

What's the safest way to connect/remove cans from an amp?

I'm using the PA2 right now, if that matters. Should I turn it on and off before connecting or removing headphones, or what?

    Need good bass headphones (cheap)

The KSC755 works very well, though it's much better with an amp. However, the amp would cost many times more than the headphones themselves...

AHHH, any DAP have 1/8" line OUT?

The iPod has line-out through an adapter (http://sik.com). Once you cut off the firewire cable, it's essentially the same as a "normal" line-out, except that you're plugging it into the dock port instead of a 1/8" jack...

Two questions concerning my portable setup...

    1) Should I cut off the FW adapter from the ram din? It does me no good, as I don't even have a cable to use with it, and it really gets in the way. If so, do I just put some electrical tape over it or something? 2) What would be a good, inexpensive bag to carry my setup (sig) around in?

Is there a such thing as a "non-portable" DAP?

I heard that computers weren't too good for audio (something about them being "noisier" than any CDP). If this isn't the case, and a computer can be a good source, then I may build a cheap computer in the future and put a good sound card in it to use as a source. However, I would assume that...

Okay, I found the model number for my dad's amp.

Fisher CA-2220 Google gave me about 10 results, so it wasn't very helpful. Is there anything left to be said about the amp, now that the model number is known?

Is this "Integrated Stereo DC Amplifier" any good?

Well, that's really good to hear, and to think I didn't have to pay a dime! I'll be sure to tell my dad this; thanks for explaining it for me.

Is there a such thing as a "non-portable" DAP?

E.g. portable DAP : PCDP :: non-portable DAP : CDP Or would you have to use a computer? Some time in the future I would have a serious need for this, unless it really isn't a viable solution...

At what point does it become necessary to use lossless codecs?

Well, I could download FLAC from AllOfMP3, but I'd have to transcode it to ALAC to use it on my iPod. I don't mind this too much, but considering that it'd be $7-9 or so per album, compared to $1-2 in APS, I'd rather just buy the actual CD.

At what point does it become necessary to use lossless codecs?

My problem is that I can't re-rip to FLAC or whatever - I don't actually own any albums. Some of my music is illegally downloaded (not much, though, as it tends to be in poor quality, and it's illegal =P), a good bit of it is "inherited" from my dad's collection, and the rest is from...

At what point does it become necessary to use lossless codecs?

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but this seemed to be the best place to post. Anyway, at what point does MP3 (APS) become the bottleneck in a setup? My concern is that one day when I invest in expensive audio equipment, these MP3s that I have won't do justice to my system. However, I...

The ram din terminates in a right-angle male connector, so that'd be easier to use portably.

    Encoding/Ripping Questions

http://bestmp3guide.com Basically, use EAC (in secure mode!) with a well-tested version of LAME, and encode in APS. Once you have it set up, there's not much to it. It may take a little longer to rip than some other programs, but it's basically guaranteed to make the best-sounding MP3s...
