The best IEM at that price is definitely the TF10's, but they may or may not suit your preference.

Try TF10, SR80 and other cans that don't need an amp first. 

From my experience, Novo is pretty good with Senns

I suggest you avoid 70X, since they need decent amps.   I agree that 598 might be a good choice.

Q701 is pretty weak on the  bass side, lacking the punch you need. Plus, Q701 needs a decent  amp to perform acceptably.   So my vote would go to AD900.

To clarify myself: I do believe that a better headphone would give better performance than a not-so-good headphone with an amp, for the same price. Amp would be essential for some relatively high-end phones, but not those mentioned by ag04. 

Obviously, Sony can't make much profit from the old X series.  Sony is more towards style and trend rather than serious listening

A new headphone brings more fun than a decent amp.
