Here's my take on it:    I would buy the phones first and the amp second. You'll love the Denon's right out of your computer. Secondly, that amp is discontinued so that half price at musicdirect is in place until they sell out. Because of this, the value of used models will fall drastically...

I have and love the D5000s. I recently bought a PS Audio GCHA amp from MusicDirect for $499. I was instantly blown away by how much difference that amp made. There is somehow more bass and the highs and mids still sound present. I strongly recommend this setup. I just saw that amp for $399 used...

I like the track "There's No Tomorrow" from the Union album. I also like the organ anytime it's there in Pink Floyd. I really really like the soulful organ in black gospel particularly when the performance is unrehearsed, but it's been hard for me to find something I can not delete in that...

Ok, here's what I've got. Please help me troublshoot.   I've got my computer plugged into my music hall dac by a cheap usb cable. With itunes paused I'm getting quite a bit of high pitched hiss. If I unplug the usb cable it pretty much goes away. So I deduce that the problem isn't the DAC...

I am hearing lots of good things about the PRO 900, but I want to weigh in and say I'm really happy with my D5000s. I'm gonna have to keep collecting and eventually get some PRO900s, but I sure like the D5ks.

You might be right. I was thinking that you could get them used pretty decently. Guess not. At least not on Amazon. Maybe the 2000 will be the way to go. 

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and recommend some Grado's. I love the RS2i for vocals a la Ray LaMontagne, Amos Lee, etc. HOWEVER, I'm selling my Grados in favor of the Denon AH-D5000s. The musicality is unbelievable in both sets, I just prefer the more prominent bass of the Denons.   ...

I love my Denon AH-D5000 if size isn't too big an issue. I wouldn't be thrilled throwing them in a backpack though. I'm a prog-metal listener and they sound great. I love folk and classical through them as well. Good luck on your search!   PS...They have a really neat little amp for about...
