    Entry level CIEM $400-600

I'm looking to make my first CIEM purchase soon and I'd like some suggestions and to make sure I don't miss any smaller companies. What I'm looking for is a neutralish IEM with good sub-bass extension, clear transparent mids, flat treble, not a "fun" IEM. A flat/even low end is also important...

    Trying to understand TOTL IEMs

I'm currently shopping through CIEMs, but I'm a bit confused by some of this stuff and have some questions and concerns.   1. If an ER4-S/PT can be so good and clear (though lacking bass) with a single BA driver, why can't you get a perfectly tuned IEM with a single low and single high driver...

    Looking for bass extension

I'm looking to possibly get some headphones after using IEMs exclusively for quite a while. They would be used with a Focusrite 2i4 and most likely a Schiit Magni, -Closed, or at they at least can't leak too badly. I need to be able to use them late at night with 1 cheap door of separation...

Yamaha YH-1 Ortho worth fixing up?

These have really great sound, but they're also very uncomfortable and the pads rest ON your ears. The joints all creak and there's a slight bass rattle from a loose driver in the left earphone.   Is it possible to just take the 55mm drivers and put them in something more comfortable, like if...

    Budget DAC with some requirements

I'm moving my PC to an m-ITX build and won't have room for a soundcard anymore, so I need to make the switch to discreet components. Currently deciding between the Schiit or O2 amp for headphones, and will be using an old Sony stereo amp for my speakers. I just need a few suggestions for my DAC...

How to add noise cancellation to microphone chain?

Right now I have a Behringer XM8500 cardioid mic going into an M-Audio audio buddy preamp, and into the line-in port on my Titanium HD soundcard. It captures all the ambient noise in my room, so I would like to figure out something different for voice chat. Should I just scrap the whole setup...

    Atrio MG7 cable problems

The thin cables above the Y-split have become fairly brittle and cause a lot of cable noise. Is there anything I can do to soften them, or even have them replaced? I assume the oil from my skin has caused the hardening, so would warm soap help restore them?

Worth buying Marantz 2220 on craigslist?

I've been shopping around for a cheap stereo receiver for a bookshelf speaker setup, and I came upon this on craigslist. Vintage Marantz 2220 that I think is absolutely gorgeous. I could most likely get it for $100. Would this drive a pair of Pioneer BS21 speakers (6 Ohm 84dB sensitivity)? Are...

    Price Check on Yahama YH-100?

I have an old pair of Yamaha YH-100 headphones that are in pretty good condition, but have a slight buzz in the left ear piece. Can Something like that be fixed? Are these worth anything?

Looking for an upgrade from SE215

I really enjoy my Shure SE215, but it's Christmas and I have upgraditis. I have been applying a moderate bass boost to my shures to try and get that deep bass rumble I like, but I was thinking I'd be better off with something like the Atrio M5 or FXT90.   There's a nice coupon for 50% off...

Looking to move to an external DAC/amp combo

After using my Titanium HD for about 6 months I'm ready to sell it off and get something external. I can almost always always hear this slight hum/buzz, which I can only attribute to some sort of electrical noise within my case. The other problem is there is no easy switch from headphones to...

    What IEM to try next?

Until now I had considered myself a basshead, but after trying several sets of IEMs I'm not so sure. It's hard to find that perfect balance. Spent last night out with a friend of a friend who let me listen to his IE8's and I was pretty impressed with the soundstage and general warm balance.  ...

Looking for budget DAC with microphone input

I have tried reading through a million different threads but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Basically I need: - headphone out (using with mid level earphones, so amping isn't as important) - Mic in - RCA or 3.55mm stereo out - USB in - under $200, preferably under $150  ...

Confused about using DAC with soundcard

I'm looking to get either a sub $150 DAC, such as nuforce's udac-2, or a USB soundcard. What I'm confused about is how a DAC interacts with signal coming from my terrible onboard sound. With a USB soundcard, my onboard would be disabled and only the soundcard would do the work. Creative has...

Can't decide between NuForce NE-700 and Munitio nine millimeters

I have a few pairs of MEE earphones and like them for the most part. The extreme bass on the M9 and good isolation makes them my 'walking around' phones. I decided to try a pair of balanced arm earphones so I picked up Ety hf5's on a deal, which were FAR too analytical and dry for my tastes...

Could use some input on $50-$150 range

Here are a few I have been looking at and the best prices I've been able to find (still mad I missed the $99 Triplefi10 deal)     Brainwavz M3 $90 Etymotic hf5 $103 ATRIO M5 $120   I looked at the Panasonic HJE900 but they have mixed reviews and seem to be sold out/discontinued or...

Gamer needs new cans $100 to $150 range

Hey, I've been doing a lot of research and tested a few sets of headphones in store so far, and looking for a little input. These will be used to extended periods of time for gaming, so comfort is somewhat a factor. I mainly listen to a lot of high-bass electrica, such as drum and bass, dubstep...
