    The AKG Q701's

I have a few questions about these cans. I've owned them for a few years now. I bought them when my HD650's were nicked. At the time, I had thought they were some of the best that AKG had to offer, but after looking at their current lineup, I have a hard time believing that. Is that true? That...

Need help picking a pair of headphones

Proper headset = a bunch of those gaming headsets. The K550's work better (than the HD25s) for gaming though. Not so much for music.

Need help picking a pair of headphones

If you're talking about gaming, then they excel in that respect as well. Definitely better than any proper headset I've ever used, closed or not.

Need help picking a pair of headphones

I kind of wish I'd have seen this thread 12 hours ago. I've owned, or had very intimate relationships with the headphones you're considering, and you ruled out the best one of the can's you mentioned: The AKG K550's. I've found the sound stage on them to be as good as the Senny 598's, but the...

Looking for a DAC with balanced line-outs

Hi, I picked up a pair of Adam F7's (speakers) on Boxing Day, and though my ODAC is pretty awesome, I'd like to find a DAC with balanced line outs. Alternatively, how much trouble would it be to add balanced outs to an ODAC? I have both XLR and 1/4 TRS balanced connections (also have RCA...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

Here's my "almost stock" detachable cable mod: All the original hardware, minus the cable, is used :) Weird thing was the red wire is left.

Voodoo Sound still necessary with dedicated amp?

From what I understand of it, it allows analog control of the gain, like an analog amp does. The result is full dynamic range at all volumes, like it does at full volume?

Voodoo Sound still necessary with dedicated amp?

I have a Galaxy S i9000, but it isn't rooted. I'm wondering if Voodoo sound makes a difference if I were to max the volume on the phone and connect it to an amp?

Is my rig complete? I'm a simple music lover.

Maybe some Grado's. Those look fun :)

Is my rig complete? I'm a simple music lover.

I currently have Sennheiser HD650's and HD25-1 II Adidas. My sources are either an ODAC+O2 or a FiiO e7. I also have a Galaxy S1 and 32GB iPod Touch 3G as portable sources. I can't seem to justify buying anything else, as anything else is either ridiculously expensive or inferior.

How to eliminate clipping on very HDR tracks?

So, I was showing my mom and grandmother my headphones and amp (HD650 and O2), playing from a Titanium HD. I have AISO and WASAPI setup in foobar2k. I tried both, but it still clipped on the extreme end of the dynamic range. I played flac rips of their Il Divo Christmas CD. Wat do? PS The CD's...

Best closed Headphone for metal and rock?

Sennheiser HD25-1 II's are nice and fun, especially for metal and rock. Pretty well balanced, but with a nice little bump in the bass that isn't too extreme.

    Does this headphone exist?

I haven't looked at the DT1350, but did a little research on the K550. From what I've read, it'll be a little too closed sounding for me.. unfortunately, because I really like how clean they look. I'll read up on those Beyer's though :)

    Does this headphone exist?

HD25-1 II / HD650 Hybrid. Sorry if this has already been asked - I'm on incredibly slow internet and don't have the patience to search the forum. Anyway, what I'm looking for is essentially a HD25-1 II / HD650 hybrid. I love both headphones (I have them both), but neither of them offer what...

Anything that shares HD 558's cable?

What I'd like are a pair of headphones that share the same cable as the HD 558's, but come with a small 3.5mm plug instead. Aside from the 598's, that is. I'd like something a little more high-end, but not stupidly similar to what I already have (HD 598's) and I'd still like to use my 558's...

Will I like the AKG K142HD's?

I received them a little while ago, but I forgot about this thread. I remembered about it when I was typing a URL and this thread was a suggestion. My initial impression of the cans was they were anemic sounding, but I'm accustomed to a very full sounding sound system. After a while, though, I...

Will I like the AKG K142HD's?

I like. I've always thought these HD428's have a darker sound signature - more suited for rock and metal.. And games - not that its a bad thing (I love hard rock, heavy metal and games) - but I also enjoy lighter music as well.

Will I like the AKG K142HD's?

I'm not one to buy super expensive cans - I have modded Sennheiser HD428's, Klipsch Image S4's and the terrible Corsair HS1A's. However, I do like decent sound quality. I love my HD428's, but I wanted to try something new. I ordered the AKG K142's on sale for $99CAD. I already have a decent...

Extreme EQing to compensate for headphones weak points?

Well, I've been toying with this idea the last few days and I have to say its interesting. Not in a non-pleasing way, though. I could definitely hear more neutrality in the tone of the cans. Though, I've learned that it sounds better if you adjust it so none of the EQ peaks are more than a few...

Extreme EQing to compensate for headphones weak points?

I'm wondering whether its a silly idea or whether it has any merit. Lets say I take the =563&graphID[1]=&graphID[2]=&graphID[3]=&graphType=0&buttonSelection=Compare+Headphones"]graph from headphone.com, for my HD555's, and adjust the EQ in foobar to add and remove the appropriate dB at as many...

Do headphones survive in cold weather?

Sorry, I haven't been online much lately. In -40c, luke warm water won't freeze in the air, but it does freeze when it hits the ground. However, if you throw it up in the air, then most of it will turn into ice mist.

Do headphones survive in cold weather?

I use HD428's as earmuffs in sub -40c weather and they stand up to it much better than I thought they would. I'm sure you'll be fine in -10c, its not even that cold lol

Trivium's Shattering The Skie's Above lacks soundstage?

I love the musical idea behind this song, however the sound the song has is entirely too boring - The vocal tracks don't even have midrange, which is odd considering its the voices domain. At first I thought it was just the YouTube video that had the sound, then I got a proper copy of the song...

Will I need to burn in my new xb700's

By your definition, sugarkang, headphones are a machine. Machines very much need to be broken in, though some more than others. Would you take a Lamborghini and push its engine 100% right away? Only if you're an idiot. Why? It needs to be broken in, because its a machine. I do believe some...
