Do DIY headphone cables need to be braided?

Braiding is mostly for aesthetics and to remove mechanical noise from the wires bumping into each other. If you're going for the best bang for the buck, just get mogami or canare starquad which costs about a dollar per foot. Though I don't really like to use those cables for headphones since...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Quote:       I ebay most of my parts since I live in canada and shipping from the states is painfully expensive. favorite diy cables in these forums seems to be toxic cable or double helix nucleotide but a cheaper alternative is navship on ebay.

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

It's 4 conductors on the center and 4 on the ground so it's 8 strands per interconnect. Soldering 4 20awg conductors onto connectors is absolutely brutal.

    upgrade from the superlux 668b

Hi, I've had the superlux 668b for a while now, and it is without a doubt one of my favorite headphones. I like it's neutral presentation and it's sparkle in the high and it's ability to reach to the deep lows. I want to now find a step up from these. I've searched the forums and most threads...

    grado driver un-repairable damage?

the terminal connects to the driver coils. If it comes off it's pretty much unrepairable. But do check with grado if they will fix it.

    Sennheiser HD 650 + fiio e9 review

i have the little dot MKIV with M8161 tubes. It's quite an amazing pair. If you want to consider tubes you can check out darkvoice 336se (hear pretty good synergy there) or something diy like a bottlehead crack. the schitt valhalla is good too. but there are tons of options and even more threads...

    Sennheiser HD 650 + fiio e9 review

just wait till you spend a bit more on a tube amp or a very good solid state. Then the hd650's become a magical pair of headphones.    I'm addicted to mine. Can't go through a single day without listening to it.

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide

so i had to pitch around 40 bucks to get myself the mullard m8161 ef92's   gotta say though these things are different than any other tubes i've used. Pre-burn in it was a mess. Bass over empowers everything and the soundstage is very narrow. After a while on them I found these to the most...

The PANASONIC RP-HTF600-S headphones. More fun than the HD650?

Get the superlux next. It's one of my favorite headphones. Beautiful highs and crisp details. Just need to dampen it a bit to tame the loose bass and you got yourself something wonderful. Quote:

The PANASONIC RP-HTF600-S headphones. More fun than the HD650?

Okay... i'm impressed. These sound great. I was expecting the mid bass to be very muddy coming from all of the talk about how bass heavy these phones are, but there is non of that. bass is well defined and highs are recessed. Btw these are out of the box impressions( i've literally used these...

    Sennheiser HD650 ($350) or Denon AH-D7000 ($730)?

I have the hd650's with the LD MKIV and i have to agree with the above post. at lower volumes they are a bit lifeless, but at higher levels they become AWESOME. The problem with the 650's is that they need a tube amp to sound their best and i can't imagine the ibasso will do them any justice...

    Sennheiser HD650 ($350) or Denon AH-D7000 ($730)?

IMO i wouldn't get either for portable use. they're both pretty bulky headphones and you'll be hard pressed to get the best sound out of them with a portable setup. I would invest more into a easier to drive and more forgiving headphone like the hd-25 ii or the DT1350.   just my 2 cents.

XD the foam mod essencially turns your hd555's to hd595's. you've missed out on alot of potential for those phones.

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide

Cool my EF91's came as well as 1955 raytheon ef95s   so far initial impressions of of the raytheon's is that it sounds very similar to the m8100's but it has heavier bass and more recessed mids. The instrument seperation isn't nearly as good as the mullards (i've been spoiled by it) however...
