There's always the possibility of eq'ing a small bump to whatever region you find lacking (if with oomph you refer to quantity/prominence). Haven't felt the need to play with any eq myself yet but I might actually try that just to get a feel of the whole business.

I don't know about overhype but the only other set of very good (on my scale) headphones I've had the chance to compare the MD to are the D5000 and I honestly prefer the MD. I can't talk about specifics really, since I haven't rigorously A/B'd them or anything, but the whole non-fatiguing nature...

You could add the Violectric V800 to your list of DACs to check out. Haven't heard any DACs from these price ranges myself but I've heard nothing but praise for the Violectric. It might well be on my shopping list once I, well, can afford it.
