    7Hz Impressions & Discussion

I think of the Timeless as more of a scientific instrument. I use it quite a bit now in DIY mods and such. It can resolve a lot of detail. But, yeah, for actually listening to music ... when I want the fun factor,"musicality" and PRaT, I always go for the single DD. So, I still dig my orig...

    7Hz Impressions & Discussion

About the pre-order-avail Timeless 2, that's getting weird influencer rave reviews on YouTube, etc ... I have owned the Timeless AE for about year now. I also have an aftermarket filter kit that I have yet to experiment with. I did note earlier and elsewhere on H-F that I immediately noticed...

MASS-Kobo Model 465 Is In The House!

Saw the Z-Review. Wish Zeos had gone ahead and removed the cover. About MK… well it is not as if a committed designer with solid work ethics can’t achieve / out-do what MK has done. The Chinese industrial complex should buy the whole MK line .Take ‘em apart and Xerox as much as possible; and...

The ES9038Q2M is a budget ESS mobile dac. The lack of a dedicated LO (line out) is a huge minus. Because even using a cheap external headphone amp (even for IEMs) can transform the sonics of a DAP more than any other upgrade.

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

Yes, many, many of my posts have been disappeared from H-F. I do agree with some moderator-ship; but when forums get large, so do vested interests. About banning "details" at ASR. My entire 5-page thread about "re-capping cd players" was disappeared. Google has cache of a snip of it. Put the...

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

The ASR forum , as I've noted previously, is a very WEIRD place. I've been banned from that forum over 1/2 a dozen times. No profanities, very cordial and careful with language -- very pro-science, very pro-objective -- as to be as inoffensive as possible. Still, somebody must have held a...

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

Haven't seen the paper (full version) . What EXACTLY are you referring to? " acceptable performance" could ONLY be in reference to MEASURED performance. Even John Atkinson , in the Stereophile Measurements section, commented on his ultimate recommendations/reservations based on subpar MEASURED...

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

Just to add ... and Majidimehr's remarks on this are spot on ... that DAC measurements -- their collection; presentation -- need to be standardized. Err. Constitutionalized. Audio magazine (RIP!!) actually began much of this from the beginning of the CD era. Stereophile/John Atkinson further...

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

How TH do you (or anyone) know "pretty much the whole point of the site [ASR] ? I don't think even Amir knows. And, certainly, the "point" [= purpose ??] changes over time. For example, as more an more folks send Majidimehr their gear for testing, a commitment develops into honoring those...

Audio Science Review AES Paper Presentation on Audio DACs

Note what Majidimehr, specifically mentions in the video: In the AES paper, brand names/models are not noted. (AES standard for bias???). HOWEVER , in the video and asr site [of course], Majidimehr, as an added BONUS, does note the "good" and "bad" dacs ... my manuf and model...

    Watts Up...?

Is this really an accurate estimate? Many, many heads and CEOs (= decision makers) of major electronic manufs are audiophiles. And certainly, given the apparent use and endorsement of Chord DACs in major studios ... that reputation --at the very least -- would allow Chord to tap into (no pun...

Mr Watts ... you've been hammerin' away at the albatross project -- WTA and gazillion-tap DF -- since the Deltec / DPA days http://www.acoustica.org.uk/DPA/deltec.html Have you considered releasing your designs for ASIC ? Maybe, to TI . AD or AKM. FPGAs are nice as you can update firmware...

    CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE

Well here, in a controlled environment, where the "trolling" can me micromanaged and called out, rather than, say, unchecked on a more popular forum or YouTube. Specifically, ASR. I think Majidimehr himself is a genuine, self-aware, TROLL. Maybe like Elon Musk. As far as his followers (ASR forum...

A D/A Distortion Compensator ? This mystery device -- TC17G005AF-0048 -- has been the subject of occasional discussion over the decades. Since Rob Watts seems to seem to be informed about ASIC/FPGAs, I thought perhaps he could chime in. Notably, certain Kenwood players in the late 1980s used a...

All forums and SM engines will ultimately de-volve into a "Forum Industrial Complex" . The Founding Fathers, no doubt, began with puritanical fundamentals. This is a non sequitur Lindholt. Why begin an exchange with someone you deem "immature"? Why subject yourself to that contagion? It's because you are bored. Hence all those posts in so little time. There is world outside audio forums. See my Sig line. Bottom line: for some, let's have...
