Audeze EL-8 Closed Version Impressions Thread
I ended up removing the padding between the drivers between the earpads and the drivers. It sounds much clearer to me and doesn't make my ears pop as much. I'm contemplating looking for earpads that might fit these headphones and modifying them.- mrscotchguy

Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones
Have you tried them with any other source? The TH600 is a bass monster, and I get what you mean about the ear fatigue. They can hit pretty hard, especially with a good seal. You might want to try some velour or hybrid earpads before getting rid of them. The th600 are very enjoyable paired with...- mrscotchguy

Kind of but not really. I'd recommend getting a cheap switch tester from amazon or eBay so you know how the more premium switches feel. Basically they are Brown Switches with larger metal leaves and a different shape tactile "curve" on the stem. Panda switches are popular because the stem...- mrscotchguy

They are... So far I've been buying budget boards and pimpin' them out with as gifts or builds for friends and family. I ordered this but it won't be shipped for at least another month. (Not a hobby for instant gratification). The board, case, switches, stabilizers, lube, wrist rest...- mrscotchguy

I like tasteful RGB personally. My newest KB, unfortunately, doesn't have the best speed or brightness options. I picked up the dk61e since it's on sale.. Definitely going down the KB rabbit hole like I did with Headfi. Now you just need to lube your switches and get the butter smooth thoccs 😂- mrscotchguy

Thanks for this. The paint on the underside of my headband is starting to come off. I was not looking forward to plasti-dip surgery. It's good to know you can get a non-speckled headband replacement.- mrscotchguy

Just rebuilt my KBC Poker 1st gen with MX Browns. Added a layer of EVA foam under the PCB, and did a very light lubing with PTFE dry lube.- mrscotchguy

The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread
Finally broke down and replaced my earpads on my near 20 year old pair of hd580s. I lucked out and got these cans used from my favorite local audio store. They were from one of their older regulars that had an insane speaker setup supposedly. After he passed the shop helped his wife appraise and...- mrscotchguy

Pro tip.. Early Times is just young Buffalo Trace in massive batches. Honestly it's not bad for well whiskey. I was happy to drink it as the $3 beer-shot special after a long shift tending bar.- mrscotchguy

Whisk(e)y inflation is nuts. I feel eventually the market will flatline and there will be a glut. Hopefully prices will then fall back to a respectable level. I don't suppose we'll ever get back to the days where you could get Weller Reserve for $17/handle or Yamazaki 12yr for $30 :deadhorse:- mrscotchguy

Hate to be that guy, but it is the Beats of the Whisk(e)y world. JWB is not in it's own rights bad, it just bad for what it is and represents. I won't trash talk Diageo, especially becuase I love the hell out of Johnnie Black, but if you want the JWB secrect ingredient, try to find an old...- mrscotchguy

Some of it is status or what I call "gift status" for business relationships. Sometimes is a gift of Johnnie Blue for passing the Bar. But like any hobby, from the outside, most of nuance will seem like hyperbole looking in. It wouldn't be unlike a friend buying a Bose because they've heard they...- mrscotchguy

I'll stick to buying a dram once I feel comfortable going back to the bars. My point was of the thousands of whiskies I've tried, of the few dozen super aged, there's few I would even consider buying. I feel age is overhyped. Some are mindblowingly good, but my experience, they most affordable...- mrscotchguy

I tend to avoid the super old malts mayself. I've had opportunities to sample whisky as old as 42 years and they become so cost prohibiting that it's hard to justify a bottle. Sampling them at tastings or a nice pub, or even through internet trades are fun ways to say I've tried a whisky. I...- mrscotchguy
