Jude, There is enough of a sound difference between the lt1364 and opa627, that is would be worth giving it a shot, IMO. You may prefer the opa627.

amol, Have you tried changing out the output caps? Or tried using film cap bypasses on the stock caps?

It's possible something after the resistor is drawing an excessive amount of current, causing the resistor to open. If the resistor blows again, you have other problems, obviously.

If you don't want to spring for a cheap analog vom from Rat Shack, try swapping out the resistor.
