    Macbook Air DAC/Sound Quality?

Compared to my 2010 MacBook Pro 17", the MacBook Air 13" (2012) has (comparatively) superb SQ. With my SE535's I got a lot of hiss from the MBP17, with the Air very little. Was a pleasant surprise - was quite similar to the level of hiss I get with the iPod Classic (latest gen).

Really bizarre problem with the Shure SE535 IEMs.

Hey everybody,   Just a couple of days ago I experienced the weirdest problem I've ever encountered with a pair of IEMs. It was like the SQ had just been wiped from the 535's and even upon calling the Shure Distribution Centre they were perplexed by the issue.    One evening I'm using...

Real or not? Shure SE535's. eBay purchase.

Brand new pair of Shure SE535's arrived today, ordered directly from Amazon.co.uk for £290. I'm guessing when I ordered them from the US the last time it was basically taking the £50 VAT off the item - item also came in the newer and less nice packaging - I'll stick everything in the metal box...

Real or not? Shure SE535's. eBay purchase.

You may find it fairly unpleasant to read, but in November of last year (2010) I left my Shure SE535's on a bus... then, weeks later I left my back-up pair of Shure SE115's - somewhere, no idea for those.    As you can imagine you might be thinking that I'm mad for even considering to buy...

Have I become a mild audiophile?

I'll still listen to music I like and love. I never said I can't listen to recent music (my iTunes collection is testament of that.)   I just want to try and prove a point to people that we CAN have better sounding tunes. Now the majority of music is mastered to near peaking level, and...

Have I become a mild audiophile?

Quote: My wallet is okay. I'm quite lucky in having a dad with an extensive collection of first release CD's. The Shure's were about £270. So not too much of a dent yet. I just need to start on hi-fi gear before I start to feel it. xD

Have I become a mild audiophile?

I get so angry with an artist I love that removes all the dynamic range from their music.    I wanted to compare what it would look like if artists before this war started were re-processed to suit the needs of 'the consumers'.    School, by Supertramp (Original Master)    ...

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

Quote: Depends on the company you have delivering it. FedEx pay for the import then and there, and don't bother to get you to pay on the doorstep.    They cost £261 with post and packaging. With the added cost of import duty that brings it to £270.25. I'd say a great deal.

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

Quote: Oh this is a follow up post. These came through the postbox in September, the VAT notice came through about 2 weeks later. I paid them the VAT but not the admin. Yet to receive any complaints from FedEx. I was lucky that the charge was so little. I think paying off the VAT would...

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

Quote:   FedEx sent me one about a month back... I've not paid it yet actually. The reason I've not paid ALL of it was because they charged a stupid admin fee of £10 on an item which HMR&C had declared £9.25 tax on. I sent the £9.25 to FedEx but I've never paid their admin fee.   ...

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

Quote:   I grabbed them from an eBay seller that a few others recommended and vouched for being authentic.    It really depends on the music that you listen to. For example, I used to be able to listen to Coldplay (don't ask why) but trying to listen to their newer albums is dismal...

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

Quote:     Moving up from my Shure SE115's the initial reaction was decent. I like the Shure sound, so it took about 10 or 15 hours before I started noticing really excellent differences between the single driver 115's and the 535's. (I think if you were going from a very low end...

Have I become a mild audiophile?

Just wondering but...   I bought a pair of Shure SE535's in September. When I did this I started encoding into ALAC/M4A lossless, and before I go out and buy any CD I search for what is considered the best sounding version of said disk. (Typically a Japanese or original release, I've got a...

What quality are the files streamed at on Grooveshark and how does it work?

Quote: Actually since emailing Grooveshark via their Feedback VIP box thing that you get if you're a fancy subscriber, they also said that in some circumstances they will use higher quality files, so 320 and 256.

Pictures of Your Portable Rig [Part XIV]

^ I've not really touched the silicon tips, I tried the triple flanges because I was having ear irrigation (the body of the Shure's rub against the inside of my ears) and they significantly increase the distance of insertion. Do try all the tips though, especially the foam ones, as they provide...

Pictures of Your Portable Rig [Part XIV]

^ Thanks, unfortunately for me my ears are obnoxiously small, and as a result every time I use the Shure's I end up having to suffer with them digging into the back parts of my ears. At the end of a long 2 hour listening session I'll have massive purple marks on the inside of my ears.  ...

Pictures of Your Portable Rig [Part XIV]

Got this all quite recently.   iPod Classic 160GB + Lossless only. Shure SE535's Clear.     The Classic has quite a nice and quite sound, there is some minor hiss, but nothing in comparison to the MacBook Pro it's sitting on, which hisses worse than a python.    Do you...

How do you carry around expensive IEMs with you?

I have a pair of Shure SE535's and before that Shure SE115's which cost about £100. I'd just stuff them in my bag, leave them hanging out of pockets. I really abuse my headphones. I never really worry about them getting stolen as I've always got them on me, or attached to an iPod classic.

What quality are the files streamed at on Grooveshark and how does it work?

Quote: I can confirm that the bitrate for Grooveshark is 192kbps, using streamed + cached MP3 files. It sounds pretty good, but remember you need to be on a decent connection otherwise it'll downgrade the bitrate to below the hundreds.    Source: Grooveshark Forums.

    Best place to by SE535s?

If you don't mind not having replacement via Shure I bought my Shure SE535's from eBay on Monday for £261 + P&P ($400). This was very cheap to me because the average price for the UK is about £400.

Real or not? Shure SE535's. eBay purchase.

Hmm, well after a few days I've noticed that they seem to have an issue (mostly with the left ear) that sounds like they're slightly loose in the connection between the detachable cables. It makes a slight crunching noise (like stepping on gravel) I'm not really sure what the appropriate term...

Real or not? Shure SE535's. eBay purchase.

After spending some time with them I think they are the real deal. You mention that it would be very hard for fakers to pull this off, but remember the Sennheiser IE8s? They were faked to death.    Anyway, better to be safe than sorry.   Other than the fit of the Shure's hurting after a...

Real or not? Shure SE535's. eBay purchase.

Hey Head-Fi. I posted about a week ago asking which headphones I should go for. I chose the Shure SE535's and picked them up for £261 w/shipping, that's just under $400.    They were shipped out on the 8th from New York, and I received them today (two days shipping is fantastic!).   ...

Should I upgrade to the Shure SE530 or SE535's?

This is quite exciting! Apparently I'm going to get my headphones today (after just two days of shipping!). That's probably the best shipping I've ever gotten internationally. Try doing that through the UK's Royal Mail inland service and I bet you anything the package would take longer.  ...
