Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.
Right now I'll be sticking with Etymotics ER-4Ps. Might make a change in the future, but for now it will be 4Ps on the go, and when I take this thing to school I may use an old pair of ATH-A900 that I've got laying around - we'll see how well the 71A handles those.- Mr.Sh0eWax

Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.
Well, the SR-71A arrived today, unfortunately I haven't had any time to listen to more than one song because I have an exam tomorrow, and my home rig is usually just fine when I'm at my desk. So in that spirit I'll hold off from giving any impressions, other than to say this thing has A+ build...- Mr.Sh0eWax

BEGINNER need help!!!!!!
I think the penguin is starting to be more and more popular - but I haven't been keeping up with the DIY scene lately. I'd be interested in seeing some wooden designs, but this is all beyond the point. I should point out that Head-FI's DIY sub-forum will be a much better place to go for your...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Does a headphone amp just increase loudness? Or something else too?
Sure, definitely. I didn't by any means try to imply my answer was all encompassing. Sorry if that misled you. :triportsad:- Mr.Sh0eWax

If I got one to pair with my kit I'd probably shorten their included cable, and buy a cheaper mini-to-mini from HeadRoom.- Mr.Sh0eWax

The Solo seems interesting. But I'm a little put off by the price they ask for those interconnecting cables. Am I way off base here? They include the rubber bands because its obvious people are gonna wanna stack this but including the short cables was way beyond the call of duty. Ahh, that's...- Mr.Sh0eWax

I tried to build a CMOY myself but I failed.. Anybody could help with trouble shooting?
Did you take this to the DIY forum? The readers who frequent there might be better suited to look over your schematic and your actual soldering. Sorry I can't be much help.- Mr.Sh0eWax

Often times the built in amplifier in your MBP will not be able to deliver the power (in terms current / voltage - someone else can probably offer more details here) that less sensitive headphones require in order to reproduce that analog signal accurately (or to their fullest). You could try...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.
I would be interested in reading your impressions of the 71A + DT-880 combo, even before you get your HR-2 rig up and running (maybe with a comparison afterwards, post burn-in?). The DT-880 has been on my list for a little while and with this 71A in the mail it will be an even more pertinent...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Haha, this is actually pretty silly since I only live about 90 miles from RS Audio, I could have driven to pick it up... probably should have when I think about it - but time is money. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of that before I placed my order, actually. *facepalm*- Mr.Sh0eWax

I dunno, I made it to and from work today, but I can see why the shipping situation might be slowed down. Perhaps an "I got your order, will be shipping as soon as weather permits" email would be nice tho... It's cool tho, I'll give it some time. You know how it is tho, just eager to get...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Well I placed my order for an SR-71A last night; or rather I forwarded Ray my cash thru paypal, so hopefully I'll be able to really participate in this appreciation thread soon. Anyhow, what's the usual turn around time for Ray, I haven't heard from him since transfering, and does he usually...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Okay, to be honest the D5000 won't even be leaving the house. It's just the most power hungry headphone I've got at the moment, so I wanted to know what's what. I might be interested in picking up a new pair of cans for work, and this amp would do double duty with my ER-4Ps. Perhaps I need to...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Thanks for the input. Well, right now, the most potent can I'm interested in powering would be the D5000, but perhaps a set of Beyerdynamics might be in my future. Does anyone else feel that the P-51 is underwhelming when it comes cans? I'm somewhat surprised to hear that... (Even after...- Mr.Sh0eWax

Yeah, discontinued. I got one of the marketing dept.'s units when they were on the B-stock page. Anyway, all that has been covered in another thread i think it was titled "where's the ultra micro" or something of the sorts... EDIT: no sorry just titled "Ultra Micro Amp."- Mr.Sh0eWax

Amp for AD900s?
I'd say you'd do okay with a decent receiver, if you have one laying around and wasn't necessarily excited about jumping straight into amplification. My Yamaha drove the A900s to satisfaction for a long time.- Mr.Sh0eWax

Am I asking for too much?
^bump I'm gonna bump this because I'm curious if there's anything else out there that might fit this guy's needs... What do you guys think about a V6/MDR-7506? Bass isn't bad, tolerably accurate, not too sloppy but I wouldn't call it crisp, it's cheap, a good starting place by my...- Mr.Sh0eWax
