VSonic GR07 vs Vsonic GR01 vs Fischer DBA-02 MKII
They are different. I'd say the Vsonics are better built than Fischer. Personally, I prefer the GR01. It has the best accuracy and isolation due to its design. I like its flat response. Build is good but I'd prefer a cable that doesn't tangle as much. The GR07 is a dynamic driver...- piesky

Lost my ER4Ps... now what? ($200-300)
Vsonic GR-01. Same twin armature drivers as the ER4. They are as close to the Etys in terms of sound signature and accuracy as I've heard. Build is pretty good too. Only thing is, it may not fit as well under a helmet.- piesky

Question about ipod hard disk upgrade
Isn't the backplate of the 240gb a custom one? The one I see on Red Wine appears much thicker.- piesky

Creative ZEN X-Fi2?
Very light for its size. UI is good, better than say, a S:flo but not in the league of the ipods. There's an environment for creating apps, but there isn't yet an app store like the ipod touch. Poor touch screen. Takes the shine off a good player. Sound quality is very...- piesky

DAC(found) + Speakers for new iMac...
I don't use the 3d effects myself. But the Creative USB card is quite capable musically speaking. I like the sound, with some effects turned off. I've used them with $10-$15 Creative speakers, the A60 and the card made the speakers sound like much bigger speakers. They also drove the Creative...- piesky

Creative X-Fi USB. Cheap enough to experiment with added volume control. Won a Red Dot design award too.- piesky

Absolute Cheapest Computer Speakers that are Decent Quality
Very cheap speakers. Creative A60. Not as good as the T20s but I got them brand new. FANTASTIC SOUND for $10-$20. Try not to get USB powered speakers. They tend to be underpowered and sound tinny. Easily overextends too.- piesky

Are iPods a no-go for audiophiles?
I have direct experience with Sony Walkman A and X series, Cowon D2+ and the Creative Zen X-FI2. They sound much better with few tweaks than say, the Nano. The best sounding Ipod of them all, the Iphone (in airplane mode)/Touch 3GS compares favorably with these players, but applying a couple of...- piesky

Are iPods a no-go for audiophiles?
My take on Ipods is, they are great PMPs, highly relevant in 2010. The original ipod design, now evolved into the Ipod Classic, is still selling today with its design (controls, dimensions, UI) essentially unchanged from its debut in 2001. That is testament to the great engineering job Apple did...- piesky

Why buy a Macbook?
Quote: I won't call the newest Sony Vaio Z rubbish, for example. To my knowledge, no current laptop at any price has its spec, and the model sold out in many countries within weeks of launch. Apple has a great ergonomic and industrial engineering team. That I'll give them. It was my...- piesky

Why buy a Macbook?
Quote: That's not what I meant. I'm buying a mac, for the other half who likes how they look. I was merely responding to the post quoted. It is not so much criticism as observation. Even so, Apple is the slowest to market among the brand-name builders because they customize the...- piesky

Why buy a Macbook?
Quote: I don't think so. Spec for spec, Macs are at least 6 months behind the cutting edge in the PC world. Brand name builders are still cheaper than most macs.- piesky

How much will you spend on a DAC to match a $1k pair of active monitors with balanced inputs?
Yes. These are the speakers I'm getting. I'm not so worried about the volume. It's not difficult to get them to sound right to the ear. I'm looking very closely at Audio-Gd equipment but I don't have enough space for multiple audio boxes. I'm looking for a compact DAC/pre but they're...- piesky

How much will you spend on a DAC to match a $1k pair of active monitors with balanced inputs?
Hi guys. I'm new here. I'd like to canvass opinion, esp. computer audiophiles on the above question as I step up my research on a suitable sound system for my desktop. First, I've pretty much settled on a set of Sonodyne SMK100, after a couple of rounds auditioning various speakers such as...- piesky

What makes one portable player better than the other?
Good sound requires quite a bit of clean power. That's one reason why a separate amp improves the sound quality of a DAP. There's also the DSP and the digital-analogue decoder. The former processes the digital sound, the latter converts the resulting signal. The problem is trying to fit all that...- piesky

Why buy a Macbook?
Hi guys. This is my first post. First I never thought a Mac/PC debate will crop up on a sound forum. But it's been an interesting read so far. Quote: Regarding Iphone/Android, I'd say two things. One. The very same hardcore geeks who struggle with a screen shot are the very...- piesky
