    NEW! Bose QC25 2014

I just got these cans after noticing the price has come down quite significantly this year. The active noice cancelling is amazing. The audio quality is fine but not excellent, leaving me somewhat dissatisfied that I now have to choose between NC or fidelity when listening with headphones...

    Phonak Perfect Bass 012 & 022 - new models

I prefer the grey filters over the green ones. IMO the green filters take away too much of the PFE's signature clarity and mid-range detail and make them too silent overall. I can't compensate that by equalizing, but I can easily equalize the PFE with grey filters too have as much bass as the...

    PFE 012 vs Hippo VB's????

IMO the PFE 012 are superior to both the RE0 and the Hippo VB

UE 700 vs phonak audeo pfe 1xx or the new perfect bass

Alright, I've listened now to both the PFE 012 and the UE 700 back and forth and here are my first impressions:   - the PFE sound very smooth overall, with an emphasis on the bass. The bass is very tight and precise but maybe a little bit too much for my taste (but I generally have a...

UE 700 vs phonak audeo pfe 1xx or the new perfect bass

That's a very interesting question. I'm currently facing the same decision... and just ordered the new Audéo. The UE700 however, are incredible small and look so much nicer. Maybe someone who have listened to both the (old) Audéo and the UE700 can give a comparision?   EDIT: I ended up...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

I guess I misread your post - you wrote "rock EQ" and I thought of rockbox. I wouldn't recomment using the native iPod EQ - the distortion it produces will probably outweight any benefit. If you can't get rockbox to work (would be a shame because it really rocks!) you could try to dampen the...

    Phonak Perfect Bass 012 & 022 - new models

I've sent a request to phonak and they told me that the new models are supposed to be avaiable in Germany from July 15th. The price will be "around 80€".

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

Quote: My rockbox eq settings for the 668B are: 3khz, q=2.0, -2db; 5khz, q=4.0, +2db; 8khz, q=2.0, -4db. The lowering at 3khz is to take out some FF-like coloration, the lowering at 8khz is to take out the harshness. The gain at 5khz is to compensate for the former and actually comes...

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

I'd like to add another empirical study (this time conducted on a scientifical level), which should be of greatest interest here, since it especially deals with headphones.   Part one is theory, part two is the empirical study: http://www.cpt.univ-mrs.fr/~briolle/11thAESpart1.pdf...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

danzal: This is a quite accurate description of the 681's sound. Just remember that this topic is about the 668B which are by far superior to the 681 IMO.   The 668B have different drivers and a very different frequency response. They feel much more linear than the 681 - there's no "gap" in...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

Quote: The impedance curve is neglectable for the simple transducers used in headphones -- if you amp them properly. Resonance, cup construction etc. can all be subsumed under either frequency response or fit. How do we hear things like resonance? We can hear it only so far as it does...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

Well, 20hz should be very silent compared to another signal because that's the nature of our hearing. A 20hz sine wave of the same level as a 30hz sine wave is perceived to have 1/3 the volume of the 30hz sine wave (the human ATH goes down 20db from 30hz to 20hz, a step of 10db is to double the...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

So there's nothing to improve there. If you think the sound is too harsh, use an equalizer to suit it to your taste. I think the Superlux can be improved a bit by EQing out the spike between 7 and 10 khz. A dip of -3db at ca. 8khz should take out the harshness.

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

All I can say is that I like the Superlux better than my old Beyerdynamic DT880, because the latter have some problems with sibilants.   Have you measured your DAC? (http://audio.rightmark.org) AFAIK sound differences between different high quality DAC's are another audiophile myth.

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

Nah, everything above the cheapest low-fi phones will have an THD which is neglectable. There has been quite some amount of research into the audibility of THD.   Wikipedia:   Of course, the audiophile community if full of people who believe they have some supernatural perception and...

Superlux HD668B are they really that good or just a cheap copycat???

I can't confirm that. I used Audacity to generate a series of low frequency test signals, and they go all the way down to 20hz. Even at 30hz the signal is still very loud compared to a 440hz reference signal - that's what I'd call really deep bass extension. I think many people actually confuse...

Review by 'timar' on item 'Superlux HD-668 B'

I recently got these headphones from a german online store after reading the raving review at headphonia.com. While it left me quite sceptical, I thought ca. $35 isn't that much of a risk to take and they'd even be worth the price if they just had a decent sound quality. But they haven't. They...
