Are you referring to the small screws perpendicular to the adjustable rods? They are both tight to a screwdriver.- clams

Audio-gd NFB-28
Eh, I think it's a complete non issue for me and most people. I use the control quite a bit too. It's a stepped volume control so I'm not surprised it operates this way. This isn't sloppy execution, it's how a stepped attenuator works.- clams

Burson Air - New portable amplifier/DAC
Trying to see if there's interest would be putting out surveys and studying that marketspace. This is just taking advantage of a system to get risk free capital to launch a new product. I'm sure as a company that's pretty well established they could put forth existing capital. They could...- clams

Burson Air - New portable amplifier/DAC
This seems pretty wrong that an established company is using IndieGoGo to fund a new product risk free. Platforms like this and kickstarter are for regular individuals with no capital to make products they normally wouldn't have the means to make. Burson is an established company that should...- clams

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.
Quote: That's just a generalization of tube amps. In the case of OTL amps like the Bottlehead Crack, the increased voltage output actually made the bass on the HD650 more controlled than the m-stage. I actually preferred the Crack over the matrix for that pair of headphones although its...- clams

Classical Music: HD650 or HE-400?
Quote: This is what I meant by the "midrange cavern" on the HE-400. The Sennheisers seem a tad more flat which I enjoy more for classical but obviously that's subjective. I haven't listened to the HE-400 so that was only a minor concern I brought up. Obviously those that have...- clams

Classical Music: HD650 or HE-400?
I can't say I've heard the HE-400 but I've owned the HD650 for the past two years. HD650 has been great for classical. So much so that I've sold my AKG K702 in favor of the Sennheisers. They're excellent at pretty much every genre of classical although I'd say they shine the most with large...- clams

REVIEW: Matrix Cube DAC
I bought mine over a year ago and it allows for opamp rolling so I'm sure yours does as well. I really wouldn't worry about them voiding your warranty because of a broken seal, especially from matrix/tam audio.- clams

REVIEW: Matrix Cube DAC
Quote: Depends on the opamp and if its a single or dual chip. Single chips need the adaptor and a pair of the chip (one per channel). Some adaptors require soldering while others are plug and play. Which one you get depends on the version of the opamp you buy. Duals do not need anything and...- clams

REVIEW: Matrix Cube DAC
Quote: It uses the same DAC chip (WM8740) for the coaxial input although I think it is sent through the ASRC resampling chip first (like all the other inputs). The volume control is not digital and only affects the headphone out, not the RCA outputs (in other words, it cannot be...- clams

REVIEW: Matrix Cube DAC
I replaced the I/V stage opamp (OPA2134), with the OPA2604. I noticed an even wider soundstage with better instrument separation. The instrument separation was the most noticeable part I'd say. The bass does not "last" as long though, so the CUBE loses a little warmth but still remains punchy...- clams

REVIEW: Matrix Cube DAC
I actually found that the Cube is pretty inadequete with IEMs. The volume pot is not sensitive enough and there is channel imbalance. Once I turn it up to levels where it is no longer imbalanced, the sound happens to be loud. Works great with all my full size headphones though. Quote:- clams

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.
Quote: Yep. I regularly use them with my Audioengine A2s and they definitely tighten up the bass a good bit and give them way more punch than a speakers that size should have.- clams

Opinions Please: Audio-GD C2 vs Matrix M-Stage for K702
I would say its tube-like in the fact that its extremely slow and has that smooth dark sound. However, the imitation is not as good as the real thing and I found that the bass lent from the SUN was better controlled (though less textured).- clams

Opinions Please: Audio-GD C2 vs Matrix M-Stage for K702
I was able to only audition it was an OPA627. I ran the OPA627 both normally and biased into class A and both of the HDAMs still had bigger soundstage and slightly more accurate imaging in my opinion.- clams

Opinions Please: Audio-GD C2 vs Matrix M-Stage for K702
Quote: Caught me when I was online. I would say that the Moon is a bit too slow and dark for the m-stage, considering that the m-stage is already a slow amplifier. It's not really much of a problem except for faster paced music. It is a good match for the K702 but it made my HD650...- clams

Sennheiser HD580 or HD598?
Quote: It has a completely different sound signature. You would be better off with HD595 ($150) or the HD555 ($96). The Grado's have a house sound that's completely opposite of the Senns, much more forward sounding and aggressive. Good for rock and certain types of jazz but the Grado...- clams

Sennheiser HD580 or HD598?
Quote: I have heard it and it's still pretty disappointing to me. Positioning isn't nearly as accurate as the HD6XX series IMO. The soundstage obviously is smaller for the HD6XX but positioning is much better. The HD600 sound pretty identical to the HD580 to my ears.- clams
