Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
I can see a tiny strip of light like that if I look at the unit from the side like in that picture. Absolutely not visible from the front. Well within tolerances as far as I'm concerned. Don't know about the battery, I'm not shaking my unit.- eriktous

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
Nice to see that you're actively gathering bugs and feature requests, Andy! I have two requests myself. Concerning the pulsar light, besides just toggling it on or off, I would appreciate a brightness setting. I like the light, but the standard setting is just too bright for me at night. On...- eriktous

Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
It already is. I ordered late Thursday evening and got an email on Friday, confirming that they had just got them in and had already sent it out to me. Was hoping to receive it today, but no such luck. Hopefully Monday. Edit: see also this post #227.- eriktous

Reply to review by 'eriktous' on item 'Kinera Hodur'
Thanks for a very nice review. I can tell you put a lot of effort in it. I'm not familiar with the artists and songs you mentioned, but do you think these would work well for rock/metal music?- eriktous

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread
Thanks for your reply. I've been reading the post in the Schiit thread that introduces the Magni 3+ and Heresy, the dedicated Magni3+ and Heresy thread, as well as some linked pages, and starting to feel like I'm getting a bit of a grasp of the matter...- eriktous

Schiit Magni+ and Magni Heretic :: Impressions Thread
Could someone point me to an explanation or discussion somewhere of the differences between the two topologies, discrete vs. opamp, pros and cons of each, and why I would choose one or the other?- eriktous

Introducing the HIFIMAN HE-R9!
Not as I see it. The S on a TRS has the same length as the RS on a TRRS. The left socket is TRRS, so when a TRS is plugged into it, L- and R- will be connected inside the headphone. When a TRS is then plugged into the right socket, L- and R- on the 4.4 mm end will end up connected.- eriktous

Introducing the HIFIMAN HE-R9!
I wouldn't try this. If you look at the diagram Leonarfd posted, the sleeve of a TRS will short the L- and R-. It won't damage the headphones, but might damage the balanced source.- eriktous

Advice for a newbie
No. I'm not sure if you meant something else than you wrote, but Apple Lossless is both lossless and compressed (just like many other lossless compression schemes).- eriktous

Introducing the HIFIMAN HE-R9!
I ordered the R9 for $369 a couple of days ago (still in transit). Would also like to have the Bluemini, but didn't want to pay $380 extra just for that option, so instead I ordered (and already received) an open box Deva Pro wireless for €299, basically just to get the bluetooth module. I've...- eriktous

AP80 - Hidizs next portable Hi-Res music player
I'm looking for a replacement for my Shanling M0, which has a faulty battery, and just came across the AP80 Pro X. I'm liking what I read about it (except for the bluetooth version). One thing that's critical for me is that I rip my CDs to single flac files with accompanying cue file. Does the...- eriktous

Gallops. Welsh experimental, electronic math rock. Saw them last Monday in Amsterdam, opening for And So I Watch You From Afar. I had never heard their music before, but was impressed by their performance. Bought their album and am enjoying it thoroughly. Check out their album Yours... -

The Post and Math Rock appreciation thread.
Great thread. I've been listening to quite a lot of post-rock over the past year or so, and I still only know maybe 25% of the bands mentioned here. It started for me with Mogwai, a couple of years ago, and I still love them. God Is An Astronaut is another one of my favourites. And I've... -
Does encoding to a higher bitrate improve the sound?
I'm not familiar with those two Run DMC albums, but always be careful when comparing bitrates on different music. The differences you are hearing may or may not originate from the differences in encoding. The possibility exists that those two albums were produced/mixed/mastered differently, so...- eriktous

What PC should I get....
If you're going to be using it for audio playback, put a lot of thought into the noise the pc or laptop itself will be making. If possible, go with passive cooling of components, instead of active with fans. If you go for a laptop, see if you can test a display model or something first. My...- eriktous

help with choosing computer speakers
I've had the Z-4 for the last two years now, and I don't like them. In my opinion the two speakers are too small, so they don't extend into the lower frequencies too well, and if I turn up the subwoofer to remedy this, it just adds some boomy rumbling in the very low frequencies. There is a...- eriktous
