I'm also a metal listener I would go through the Beyer DT880 it's half closed at least ;) For M50x and M40x I don't have so much good experience they're fun but something missing and feels cheezy that i cannot describe verbally.

M50x is even so much colored for me if you look for comfort and detail and less colored sound you can go with Beyerdynamic DT770 or Focal Spirit Pro.

I've had fitting problems all the time with these guys they were so heavy and all the tonal character was changing with the headphones movements around my ears and also some issues with the harsh trebles. Than upgraded it with DT880 completely pleased.

For me I've used a lot of cheapy studio monitors includes this HD668b guys every single of them has big cons around the sound or comfort none of them were good and accurate enough than Equation Audio RP-21 even theyre cheap plastic and very uncomfortable monitors.

If you're looking to use profesionally for mixing mobile these guys are the best solution. I can compare them to many headphones that I've had like DT880 K550 which are reputable for mixing every single of them I was not pleased enough.
