    O2 vs TOTL

Quote: I always understood that the perceived soundstage is better (wider/more defined) with amplifiers that have minimal crosstalk, since low crosstalk prevents coupling of the two input channels.  This would explain why some amplifiers may have a 'better' soundstage as it all boils...

    Fiio D3

Quote: I'm planning on getting a DAC to replace the built-in one that I am using in my Samsung HDTV.  Background noise seems a bit high, and I imagine the DAC and output stage isn't all that great.  How large of an improvement did you notice when using this DAC with your Apple TV?  ...

    Turning speakers on their side?

GreatDane, I will definitely give that a shot when I get around to acquiring some felt. That is a real neat idea and sounds like it would not be a pain to setup. lini, I have tried both orientations (and alternating the orientations between speakers for giggles) and found that tweeters...

    Turning speakers on their side?

Steve, The speakers were about 5 feet apart but it is impossible for me to sit six feet from them. The difference is that they were too spread out before, and are now fairly close together but i am the same distance. It is fairly hard to get a decent sound stage in a small apartment/dorm...

    Turning speakers on their side?

I just tried it and the soundstage isn't as pronounced as it was before. The spectrum of sound is still there and the difference is not huge, but there is more of a reason to form a triangle between you and the speakers rather than putting them in a small shelf above you The sound is still...

    Turning speakers on their side?

I am in a college dorm and am trying to make good use of my desk space. So far, good use has involved having both my bookshelf speakers (B&W DM601's) pointed towards me but this has been taking up a considerable amount of space and my laptop tends to cover up a speaker while open. I have a...

Getting started - DAC & Tube Amp

Howdy All, Been a while since my last post but I have an idea that I would like to try and make here. I just recently bought a MacBook Pro and realized that it had an optical output within the headphone jack that I want to use for an amp. What I would like to try and make would be a...

    RME and Linux

I have a RME Digi 8/96 Pad that I have been using with linux for quite some time, and was not hard to set up at all. With distro's that require your own alsa configuration, all you need to do is add your card like any other and voila... it works. Otherwise, with Ubuntu, I believe all the drivers...

    USB DAC Questions

I sent him an email a while back without realizing that the DAC was limited to a certain amount and missed the group buy (first round at least). Hopefully another one comes through, looked solid.

JACK w/ RME DIGI 8/96 PAD?

I have been using my RME Digi 8/96 PAD in linux for a while now and had a discussion with another person who said that using JACK is better/the same as ASIO and would be good to figure out and try. I was curious if anyone has done that with this card or any other card... and whether it actually...

    USB DAC Questions

Howdy All, I recently bought an IBM T60 that I have been very impressed for minus one thing, the output audio quality. Intel "HD" Audio doesn't really do it for me, so I looked on the boards to find a USB DAC that would be adequate for my music listening needs. I am an electrical engineering...

Howdy headfiers... I just threw on a livecd of Ubuntu and noticed that sound coming out of this card just doesnt have that treble kick that it does out of foobar and the like in windows. I was wondering if anyone has stumbled across this issue with ALSA (I was using XMMS as well) and whether...

    RME DIGI in Linux (HELP!)

I just installed my RME in linux and can not get this to work! I removed alsa from the kernel so i could use the newer drivers and it resulted in my volume control bar crashing in GNOME.
