Electric Guitar players-- I need help!
Yes, I need lots-o-help! My son has an Ephiphone Les Paul and a 1980's vintage Music Man guitar amp. I would like to buy him an effects peddle for his b-day. I have a budget of $100 or less. Is there anything worth buying for that much dough? Thanks, gb- gbeard

I just ordered a wired Squeezebox, need opinions...
Hi head-drives! I have ordered a wired Squeezebox to remotely serve music to my living room system. I decided not to buy the wireless version due to comments I read about some difficulty the WL SQB had with streaming lossless AIFF files. The wired version+bridge is about the same price as the...- gbeard

Howdy Head-o-philes! My spousal unit has been on the warpath and I am trying out new arrangements for my speaker system. Tonight I had everything in an extreme nearfield with my speaks in about a 6 foot equilateral triangle to my listening position (ears). The sound was excellent, and after...- gbeard

Thanks to all who helped make my kids Christmas merry!
Merry Christmas Headfier's Many of you know I was buying Mp3 players for my kids this year, and I had thought I would buy the Iriver 390t. I ended up getting a very good deal on the older model 190t, so I bought one for each of my 2 curtain climbers and even added a bonus of a pair of Koss...- gbeard

Signet TK44?
I just saw these cans for sale on A-gon. http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.p...5620795&2&3&4& Anyone know anything about them? I have a pair of TK22's that I have owned since the '70's and they sound pretty good. For $180 bucks would these cans be a bargain? gb- gbeard

Gifts that keep on giving...
Hi Headfier's, I'm down to making a decision on a mp3 player for my two kids for Christmas. Which of these players is the best bang for $200 or under? Note that they are all on sale, and the Iriver 390 comes with some FM transmitter so it will play through a radio (is this any good?)...- gbeard

Howdy all, I just recently entered the realm with my new Zen Nx/PX200 combo. I am really happy with my choices except for the screen and the lack of line out. You portable headfiers were instrumental in helping me make a decision--and a good one too. Now I need some more recommendations...- gbeard

Musings for a rainy Saturday afternoon...
Hello Head-fiers, My name is gbeard and I am semi-new head-o-holic... I just can't decide. Do I need to decide? Am I an idiot? Don't answer that please! Can it be true, do I enjoy my headphones as much as my speakers? A few at this forum already know that I have been having heart...- gbeard

My New Toy...The Zen Nx is online!
Well I finally did it. I went out and bought a Zen Nx. I spent the last three nights ripping and encoding over 1400 songs (mainly whole albums) at 320k. I downloaded the freebie Notmad, and it is nice for sure, but I decided to give the new Mediasource software a try, and I uploaded all 12 +...- gbeard

qestion about lame encoding with pinnacle/steinberg clean
Hi all you smart portable encoder-types! I have decided to buy a Zen Nx and I am going to take this board's advice not to encode .wav files. I would like to rip and encode at 320k. I have Clean 4.0 that I use for vinyl to cd transfer, and I see that it includes a LAME encoder. Will ripping...- gbeard

Speaking of "underated" rock guitarists...
I don't know (or care) if these guys were on RS's list. I haven't read it. I have tons of faves, but these are folks who I think get overlooked for their terrific playing... Here are just a few picks that come to mind: Richard Thompson Adrian Belew Steve Morse (unbelievable! Check out... -

Airlines to check electronic devices...
I just saw this on msnbc: http://www.msnbc.com/news/948269.asp...20030915&cp1=1 This will likely pose a problem for portable music lovers, especially those with hand made amps. So be ready to subject yourself to a search. Necessary? Probably. Good idea? Probably. More problematic for us...- gbeard

Looking for info. Any San Diego natives out there?
Hi Head-travellers, I will be in San Diego on biz this fall. Right now it looks like I will be staying at the Radisson Harbor View for a few days (no choice) while I attend a convention, and I have been led to believe that it is not in the best location--or a very good hotel for that matter...- gbeard

Cardas!
Hi guys and gals, I finally latched on to a Cardas HD600 headphone cable, and although the stiffness as compared to the stock is taking some getting used to, there is absolutely no question from the first listen that it is a tremendous improvement. Anyone who can't hear the difference doesn't...- gbeard

AKG 1000 question
Hello Head's I'm just curious about the AKG 1000's. From my cursory search, it seems they will work with higher wattage amps. Has anyone perchance heard them with a Berning zh270? For owners, what is your opinion of the 1000's compatibility with a 70 watt tube p-p amp? Thanks, gb- gbeard
