The Etymotics HF5 Thread
These are still going strong for me (well, after discovering the Shure olives that is)... As long as one is after a natural, uncompressed sound signature these are still absolute gems today. I have found out that every genre sounds good on the HF5s, especially music with a focus on human...- CENTRAL

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
I also have them for a few days now... I also ordered the ATH pads and wait for them. They have been connected to a meridian explorer and running for 30, maybe 40 hours. Treble is underwhelming for me though. There is no sparkle and that tends to make music too euphonic and bland. Higher...- CENTRAL

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
Has anyone compared the JVC HA-S500 to the Sony MDR-ZX600 ? I found these last ones to have a great build quality, but SQ really let me down and had to sell. Bass was extremely pronounced and loose. All other frequencies striving to survive the bass flood. I am considering the JVCs as a...- CENTRAL

Audio Technica ATH-CK10
Sony hybrids work well here, but will let the grilles exposed to all kind of debris. I find the AT original tips as good as those and offer much more protection. By the way... How on earth can anyone clean the residue off the grill. That thing is slightly recessed and I really can't...- CENTRAL

cx-500 broke, <£50 upgrade ideas please :)
I am currently amazed by the SQ of the Sony MDR-EX500. They offer a great balance without any loss on attack or presense. I find they can handle any kind of music I have in my pod, which ranges from classical to death metal... The cable looks fragile however.- CENTRAL

This really IS bad for your wallet. o.O
Despite being totally careless with equipment spending, I will add my 2c... Evaluating a sound source is time consuming. Give your purchases some time to grow on you. Placebo or not, things change after a week and even more so after a month and then some... My personal experience...- CENTRAL

Can you compare AKG K450 vs. AKG K430 (after burn in), please?
You are right as far as opinions go… everybody has a different one, especially when it comes to sound equipment!!! As far as the K330, I think they are worth the price. I got one 3 years ago (scarab) and I thought build quality was great. Nice cable, nice plastic, textile label on the...- CENTRAL

decent ampless iems for under 100?
Despite owing pricier IEMs, I find the AKG330s in my pocket most often than most. Their story is a success one, because: They offer a bassy, mild sound that lets me enjoy most of my music. At the same time their mids are pretty nice and the treble extension fair (especially...- CENTRAL
