Beats got owned by Beyers.
Alright. First off, I highly doubt your friend's Beats Pros "blew" as you say, unless they too were running off an amp. I assume they were played out of an iPod. Considering an iPod won't output nearly enough power to blow any pair of headphones, even ones as efficient as the Beats Pros, I...- rockgod213

Rank the Headphones that You Own.
1) HE-500 2) Sony ZX700 3) Shure SE210 Yeah, pretty short, simple list. With the HE-500s, I don't find much of a need for anything else haha. The Shure SE210s are used only for working out, where I could care less about sound quality. The Sonys, on the other hand, are used primarily by...- rockgod213

Ultrasone Pro 900 Review
Quote: Wouldn't you want to master on a headphone that actually shows you what the mix sounds like in a best case scenario? I don't know about you, but I don't need the bass or treble boosted to check a mix. What you need is a good pair of headphones with excellent detail and a flat...- rockgod213

Headphone Hipsters
Let's not forget that competition in the price range of the M50s has really increased in recent years. They used to be quite competitive, and still are to a degree. However, they aren't the best choice for anyone looking for neutrality. There are now other options in the same price range that...- rockgod213

Quote: Thanks. That pretty much clears it up. I don't find the comfort of the pleathers bad at all, actually. I've used headphones way less comfortable than the HE-500s in the past, haha. I think I'll just stick to the damping, back-vents and when I can get my hands on some double-sided...- rockgod213

= Hifiman HE500 & HE400 Jergpad Mod v2.5 =
Quote: Maybe I missed something, but I think he said it did affect the sound. It makes sense because of the fact that velours seal less than the pleathers. He said there was a more open sound. I'm wondering if that also means the bass is tamed a little bit.- rockgod213

Would there be a particular problem with glueing (superglue) the velour top onto the pleathers? Would it have any detrimental effects on the sound? Edit: Also, does the velour pad cause any loss in bass impact or amount? I feel like the lack of a good seal could cause the bass to become...- rockgod213

Wondering If I could've already damaged my headphones while burning-in
If you were burning them in through a portable media player, I highly doubt you could have done any damage to them. However, whenever you burn-in a pair of headphones, just put them at normal listening volume if you want to do a formal burn-in for them. I personally don't bother leaving my...- rockgod213

HE-500 Pad Installation
It doesn't seem like the actual mounting ring is large enough to have all 4 tabs go into place at the same time. As soon as I get the last tab in, the others just fall out.- rockgod213

HE-500 Pad Installation
So I just received my new HE-500s today after a week. I immediately did the jergpad mod to my pleather pads. Only problem is: I can't get the pads to attach to save my life. I've been at this for literally over 2 hours now (yes, I don't give up easily) and still can't get them to attach. It...- rockgod213

Looking for headphones based on recent information (Budget: $200)
The V-Moda M-80s are really good in that price range. I think they sound a lot better than the M50s, personally. If you like mostly neutral sound, with a bit of bass emphasis, they're about as good as you'll find in that price range.- rockgod213

Are Beats Studio's worth $200?
I too, would like to apologize on behalf of a forum I previously really liked. Usually you get good information on here, and I can credit most of my audio knowledge to things I've learned on here. That said, the people in here tend to be the definition of "elitist". Mention things besides sound...- rockgod213

So I listened to Sennheiser Hd428 and Beats Studio HD today......
If you thought the 428s were good, just wait until you try some truly good headphones. I've heard the Solo HD and the 428s, and both sound pretty bad, although I agree the 428s are better. This is coming from someone who HATES over accentuated bass though, so I can certainly see some preferring...- rockgod213

Spending money on highend Headphones or Speakers!
For many people, portablility is a big factor. Most mainstream folks listen to music through ipods on the go. For this reason, it makes more sense to use headphones obviously. Another big factor is that in general, you can get much better sound for less money from headphones. The problem is...- rockgod213

If I mostly listen to mp3's, does it make sense to spend more than $100 on headphones?
A good majority of people can't even tell the difference between an MP3 and a lossless file in a blind test. You will definitely hear differences in quality by going over $100, even if you are listening to MP3s. I'd say that as soon as you get to the $500 range, the point of spending any more...- rockgod213

on-ear headphones for primarily death metal & grind?
I've heard the 228s with death metal and wasn't impressed. They REALLY aren't good for the music I listen to (metal). I'd hear people recommending the low end grados all day long for rock and from what little time I've listened to them, I have to agree. They don't have a whole lot of bass...- rockgod213
