Upgrading from the SR225i... looking for some advice :)

I have a pair of Grado SR225is that I purchased back in 2009 and a LittleDot I+ tube amp. I love the Grado sound and I am looking to upgrade my headphones. I was originally interested in the RS2i but I am curious about the new PS500. What does Head-Fi think? How do the RS2i and the PS500 compare...

    Coinstar is amazing

Well, my RE0s arrived today! Safe to say I'm quite impressed with the sound from my ipod alone, a sound wich only improves when amped through the Little Dot I+. The separation and clarity is stunning for a pair of IEMs. Bass wise, the RE0 isn't as anemic as the ATH-AD700 and the definition...

    Coinstar is amazing

My bank wanted the money rolled up so I decided to give coinstar a try. Now I'm super psyched over saving change :P

    Coinstar is amazing

Yeah, so I gathered up the massive accumulation of change I had around the house and took it all to the local Coinstar this afternoon. I wasn't expecting too much, maybe $40? After I fed everything into the machine, it just kept going on and on as I watched the cash pile up. Much to my...

Review by 'mistyfud' on item 'Grado SR225i Headphones'

My favorite in the Prestige series, the Grado SR225i is a superb sub$200 headphone. The SR225i is much more controlled than the SR125i and a bit smoother than the SR325i. Retaining the excellent Grado midrange and intensity, the SR225i also adds a bit more space to its presentation than the...

    Why does everyone like Grados?

Quote:   OK, my statement was a bit grandiose, but my point remains the same. The nature of classical music calls for a more realistic soundstage than Grados offer. On the other hand, however, that same diminished soundstage works well with intimate genres of music. Still, we're all...

    Why does everyone like Grados?

As an owner of the SR225i, I guess I'll toss in my two cents: Grados have a very unique sound, unlike any other headphone. They are very intimate and really breathe fire into music. However, not all genres of music work well with Grados. I've tried my Grados with classical and it's safe to say...

    Grado SR-60i smell?

The only Grado smell I know of is the new pad smell! How I enjoy that smell, alas it vanishes over time...   Is it more of an ozone smell or actual burning smell? Grados are hand built, so it might be faulty wiring insulation. Never the less, I would send them back; the warranty is free for...

    Why does everyone like Grados?

I think with Grado's unique in-your-face sound, listeners either love or hate them. I've been exploring other headphones but I keep on coming back to my 225is. Build wise, I think everyone should be careful with their headphones. It is true that more expensive models have thicker cabling and a...

    What were your first headphones?

The first headphones I bought for myself were some gameboy branded street styles. My mom hated how I would blast Pokemon in the car. I think my dad had a pair of Bose noise cancelers around the same time. They're dead now.

    Why Grado is for rock?

Not to be a stick in the mud or anything, but... Pink Floyd needs soundstage, something that Grados lack (which isn't always a bad thing). However, Grados with metal... balls to the wall

Just got my RS1i - and it arrived wounded

If you like their sound, then keep them. The RS1i is very close to the top and many have said the GS1000 is a completely different beast. If you don't particularly like the sound, then return them.

My Grado 225i review: 225i vs others

Great review! I have, and always will, love my SR225is. Despite what others might say, they have very good bass. It might not be bountiful, but it's very defined and tight. Some criticize them for a narrow soundstage, but that's what makes them so intense. You don't buy a Grado for passive...

    Grado SR80 Vs Sennheiser HD555

If you can't decide, compromise! The ATH AD700 has the crisp, detail of Grado and the soundstage and comfort of Sennheiser. I find myself listening mainly to my AD700s these days. They can be had for under $100 at amazon and don't require an amp to sound great. However, they don't emphasize the...

    ATH-AD700 Review

My pair of ATH AD700s just arrived in the mail earlier today! I bought them for the soundstage and comfort, something that my beloved Grados lack. Boy, was I blown away! For roughly $100, these cans have an incredibly spacious sound stage, musical textures billowing all around you. Live...

Best way for me to check if I like Grados?

Each Grado is unique in its own respect, but they all share the same core sound signature. For example, the SR325i is considered the brightest in the line and the GS1000i is often referred to having the largest sound stage, but they both share the Grado sound. When it comes to Grados, most...

    Does anyone collect vintage cans?

I found a pair of Audio Technica Signet TK22s at my Dad's. They are very bassy (especially compared to my Grados), but sound nice. Has anyone else here heard them?

    Replacement for Grado SR60s

If you are looking for a substantial improvement, go with the 225i. When I auditioned the 80i, 125i, and 225i, I found I disliked the 125i the most because its highs were too straining and fatiguing. I can listen to the 225i for hours without fatigue; they are smoother and easier to listen to in...

Headphones you regretted buying the most

Bose Triport On Ear Headphones... $180, the same I paid for my Grados and with a fraction of the sound quality. Bloated bass with murky highs: exactly what I wasn't looking for. I purchased them before I found Head-fi and became "enlightened"

What pads do YOU use with your Grado Headphones?

Well, I have the bowls and HD414 pads, and I really prefer the bowls. The senns are comfy, but the bowls just sound so much better. They are design specifically by Grado for Grado and they get the job done wonderfully.

    My Grado SR80 SR125 SR225 MS-1 MS-2i HF-1 Mini Round-up in Q&A Format

Very interesting review indeed! However, being an owner of the SR225, I feel obligated to disagree. When I was auditioning various Grado headphones at the dealer, I found my favorite cans were the SR80 and SR225. I felt the SR60 was too congested (even with the bowl pads) and the SR125 was...

    Grado SR80i or Senn HD555

Forget both cans and get the Audio-Technica ATH AD700 instead! It is the perfect compromise: bright and energetic like Grado, big soundstage and comfortable like Sennheisers, and cheaper than both of them.

Grado SR225i for home use only - Advice Needed

I too started with the Grado SR225. After auditioning both the SR80 and SR125, I found that the SR225 really stood above the two. They sound superb unamped and work wonders with the genres you are interested in. Once you go Grado, you can't go back
