AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
The local audio shop had these on display connected to a nice Ayre Codex. I listened patiently for about 10 minutes and I don't get it. The mids sounded recessed and congested and the highs were rolled off. It did nothing for me other than comfort and aesthetics, I will give them that. ...- Khemist

Grado Fan Club!
Hey all! I fell in love with the GS1000e's at a local hifi shop last week. My only other pair of Grado's are some 325 goldies, which I like but not for extended listening periods. My only external amplification is an old Ibasso Cobra since I mainly listen to my W4s on the go. Not having...- Khemist

I love Edgar Meyer....also check out Avishai Cohen. -
Epic Piano (does it exist?)
The first thing to pop into my head after reading the words "Epic Piano" was definitely Keith Jarrett (as mentioned). If not the Koln concert, maybe Kyoto off of the Sun Bear Concerts (which as a 6 disk release, certainly qualifies as epic). -
Looking for artists similar to Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor etc.

Carbon Based Lifeforms - Interloper, out on May 3rd 2010
Thank you so much for the heads up...can't wait. Out of the hundreds of psybient/ downtempo/ general chill-out albums I own, I always seem to play CBL when I really need to relax. The are the perfect audio sedative for my troubled mind . -
Comparison between W3 and SR60i
On most recordings, my 325i's have less soundstage than my Westone 3s. Was not expecting that. There is something very "direct" about the Grado sound that makes up for it though.- Khemist

Newbie Jazz Question
Kind of Blue is pretty special huh? Great album (understatement). That hard separation isn't so bad with speakers, since both ears still hear what's coming out of one speaker. For some more modern jazz that is well recorded, try "Diana Krall - Live in Paris", "Patricia Barber - Nightclub"... -
What's the best production you've heard on a hip-hop album?

REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else
Just chiming in to say I'm still blown away by my W3s. I've heard several other IEMS and just really love the sound signature of the Westones. When I bought mine used they did not come with the standard Complys and the slims did not fit my mammoth ear canals. I really liked the clear large...- Khemist

Keep the ipod touch (SQ)
I have a Sansa Clip and 2G Touch. I was underwhelmed with my Westone 3s out of the Touch. Sounded fantastic out of the clip. Then I bought an LOD an Ibasso D10. Now I only use the clip for working out or walking around. That amp and LOD really made the Touch shine IEMs and Grados. So there...- Khemist

Just wanted to chime in! My D10 came in on Monday (six days shipping to Alabama). Quality piece of gear. Loving it attached the the computer via USB and my W3s. Really, really like what it's done using the CB03 LOD from my 2G Touch. It is thoroughly enjoyable again (I had sort of soured on the...- Khemist

In dubio: IE8, W3 or UM3X?
I am completely blown away by my W3s paired with a Sansa Clip. W3s were only sibilant on my ipods/ touch. I don't listen loud. I don't think the 3s need to be "opened up" with volume like some other IEMs I've had.- Khemist

NAME THE BEST CONCERT YOU ATTENDED AND THE WORSE
Best: Toss up between Jerry Garcia Band Halloween 1992 and "Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas" two years ago. Worst: just about any live hip hop excepting Outkast and Tribe Called Quest. -

Lossless Question?
Jewman, care to elaborate on how you get Itunes to play flac. I have to use Foobar to convert them to wav, then import then into Itunes, then convert to apple lossless, then delete the wavs. If you have a more direct route, I'm all ears.- Khemist

REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else
Hey, thanks for that nice image of what was "supposed" to come with my W3 (bought second hand). It looks like I am missing the larger, in length and girth, of the foam tips. The two included pair do not fit, way too small for my cavernous ear canals. Really, the only tips that have worked at all...- Khemist

REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else
Wow these little boogers are source sensitive! I can't believe it but the Sansa Clip really does sound better than my 2G Touch with the 3's. Treble is smoother, less fatiguing and the soundstage is better. The Touch with lossless files is not bad at all (yes, there is a touch of the occasional...- Khemist
