Shure SE530 died after ~10 years. What to get now?

Hey folks! I've been out of the headphone game for many, many years. I bought Shure E500s (later replaced by Shure to SE530 after cable died) waaaaay back in 2007. They were so good that I basically stopped looking for IEMs after that. Tragically, the right cable on my SE530 has now died...

    Anyone listen with Nokia Phones?

Sorry to bump an older topic, but I've owned the Lumia 520 for 3 months now and the sound quality is excellent!  To my ears the sound is very organic with a low noise floor on my Shure SE530.  I was honestly shocked that this $80 phone sounded so good, when my expensive old HTC Evo 4G LTE was so...

    Post your computer specs!~

Is Bitcoin mining actually economical?  Like, can you get back a profit after factoring in electricity and reasonable payback time on the computer?   I just got this beautiful Thinkpad W510:   1920x1080 95% Adobe gamut 15.6" display Core i7-820QM processor 12 gb RAM 160 gb 7200 rpm...

Why is ripping to FLAC so sensitive? And is there a sturdier ripper out there?

EAC, unfortunately, is just horrendously slow on this computer.  I don't really have the time to play with every single setting, so DBPowerAmp tends to be more practical.  I'll give CDex a shot.  I have some suspicions that my CD drive might be crappy--it is the built-in unit on my Elitebook...

Why is ripping to FLAC so sensitive? And is there a sturdier ripper out there?

Pretty much like the one on top, but with a few surface scratches.  Never interferes with playback or mp3 ripping.

Why is ripping to FLAC so sensitive? And is there a sturdier ripper out there?

Hey everyone, I'm in the process of ripping my collection to FLAC.  However, I'm running into some trouble--both EAC and DBPowerAmp seem incredibly sensitive to errors!  It can take 10 minutes to rip a troublesome track, and I just don't have that much time to deal with errors.  I've never had...

Your 5 newest CDs (or LPs)

This week I purchased:   Rolfe Kent - Sideways Soundtrack The Knife - Silent Shout (Deluxe) Joanna Newsom - Ys Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy   The first three are albums I've had in MP3 form for a long time, but finally got around to buying the CD's.  The Kanye CD...

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]

I've had a lime green Lamy Safari with Aurora Blue for about a year now.  Since then, I have owned, enjoyed, and lost a Lamy Studio and Lamy 2000!!  I am just not destined to own expensive pens, it seems.  Yesterday, I picked up a second Safari in the matte charcoal color with some brown J...

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

Quote: You are oversimplifying a lot.  It's more like spending $595 on E500/SE530's, with the distinct possibility of future repairs.  High end headphones should last a long time, period.  I had Etymotic ER-4P's for several years with no problems.

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

Remolding costs $117, because I can get the molds done by an ENT friend for free.  And I certainly expect a $450 earphone to last longer than three years!!

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

I received a canned response basically saying the same thing.  Rather disappointed that they don't stand behind their product more, but I will likely do a remold/recable from Inearz.  No more Shures for me in the future!     Quote:   It seems like Shure doesn't really understand how...

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

So I just took a careful look around, and a set of Denon AH-D2000's are just $215 on Amazon!  I don't really need the small size of the E500's these days, although their sound quality really needs no qualifiers.  However, it's still hard to justify spending $145 on a new set that might crack...

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

Oh... bummer!  I've been away from Head-Fi for a while and it seems like there is a huge influx of new earphone models.  So you guys think I might be able to do better getting new headphones for $145ish?  I'm not sure how far the industry has come.  It seems like a couple years ago, the...

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

I don't need a custom fit.  I'm very happy with the stock shape, I just need a basic recable.  I emailed Kim from Fisher Hearing.  Is there anywhere else I could get the cables repaired without actually going all the way to a custom mold?

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

I've been looking but haven't found anywhere that will recable E500/SE530's.  Any ideas?

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?

I've been extremely happy with my E500's for the past three years that I've owned them.  I bought them back in college when I had some good-paying part time jobs.  However, it's the start of med school now and the cables just gave out completely--cracked in two places!  So, I'm looking at my...

2.0 Speakers Compilation: Best for <$500

Sorry, I sort of have to nitpick here... Quote: What?  A subwoofer has nothing to do with being active/self-powered.  If you don't mind getting a receiver, there are lots of options out there for bookshelf speakers. Quote: What does a sound card or USB DAC have to do with loudness...

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]

What kind of paper were you writing on?  If you're using Moleskines or Piccadillys, it should be a really fine line.

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]

Hey, that's exactly what I started with, except I got the F nib!  It really is an awesome way to begin.  I've since moved up to a Lamy 2000 and Studio Palladium--haven't felt the urge to branch out into other brands yet.

    uDac disappointment

I think the uDac is perfect as a portable laptop sound card.  It beats the hell out of the garbage in my Lenovo T60p when I'm on the go, and sounds REALLY good with my Shure E500's.  No complaints here!

Good DAC/AMP combo for HD 650s?

I am using the Headroom Micro DAC and the Purity Audio K.I.C.A.S. Caliente.  Great combo and not too expensive!
