Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Based on some feedback I saw online, I decided to pick up the SMSL PO100 Pro from Amazon. The company who sells them in the US, Aoshida Audio, lists open box ones on the Amazon store page for about $20 less than new, so went with one of those. I can report that it is the first device I've used...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Has anyone here used a USB to Optical converter with the PS5 that actually worked? I've tried three so far and they either have noise or constant drop outs. I'm trying to get audio into the optical port of my Modi 3E, which is a UAC2 device.

    Shure SRH1540 Review

EDIT 3/16/2024: I've had the mod applied for about two weeks now, and I'm still very happy with it. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with these headphones. Gentlemen. I have been trying different mods with my 1540 in an attempt to tame its resonant bass response. I believe I have nearly...

    Shure SRH1540 Review

I just picked up some new leather pads for the SRH1540. They're sold as "Earsoft Replacement Ear Pads Cushions" Type 2 on AliExpress. They cost about $10 shipped. The quality and fitment is excellent. You could have easily fooled me into believing they're OEM pads. So far, my impressions are...

    Shure SRH1540 Review

Well said. It's weird how obsessed people have become with the, "KILLS THINGS AT 34345345x THE PRICE" meme. I mean, I get it. We all want value for the dollar. But let's try to dial back the hyperbole just a bit.

    Shure SRH1540 Review

The 1540's biggest issue is the mid-bass hump which can bleed into the mids. The cups need some kind of dampening to tune that out, it's just a question of figuring out how much. If I had access to a measurement rig I'd do it myself, but unfortunately I don't.

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

I also don't think the PM3s are resolving enough top really tell the difference even if there was one between balanced and single-ended.

    Shure SRH1540 Review

I tried damping the cups some Noico butyl rubber I had around. While it certainly smooths out the bass response, it seems to add sibilance. I prefer the sound without the damping material. I also tried using creatology foam instead and the results were similar. I think damping on or around the...

Has anyone ever taken measurements of these using different pads or with dynamat installed in the cups?

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

For anyone who may want it, here's my personal EQ for the PM3s. This is based on Oratory1990's EQ for the stock PM3s, which sounds better for me than either of the EQs he made for units with aftermarket pads. Basically I've taken his EQ and added a bit of energy at the top and bottom, which I...

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

They're the leather pads sold under a number of different brand names. Keep in mind when I say they're the closest thing to a closed HD 6XX I've heard I'm speaking more to tonality than anything else. Soundstage, imaging, detail, etc. is a step down from the Sennheiser.

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

I just picked up a used pair of PM3s from a fellow Head-Fier for $200 with replaced pads and a headband cover. This is the closest I've ever heard to a closed-back HD6XX for a reasonable price. They're just so damn smooth and easy to listen to. Has anyone done a comparison between the various...
