Xonar Essence STX vs Compass DAC/AMP?

Can't speak specific to the compass but I went from a Cute Beyond and a Fubar II and I feel that the essence is at least equal to me, and it is SO much more convenient because I can have my speaker and headphones plugged in at the same time.

These crazy, curly lightbulbs you keep seeing everywhere...

Quote: It all depends how you are using them, if you are turning them on and off frequently, they will die more prematurely as opposed to turning them on for 15 mins and then turning them off, the on and off again must be rough on something in the bulb.  ...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Quote: While I agree on the SSD part, that drive is highly overpriced, you can get a comparable drive for much less, but that drive does go on sale frequently. I would go for a Samsung or an Adata, but thats just what I've had experience with. Hell if you have a microcenter near, you...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Quote: Agreed, but if you move your case around a lot like I do, a sturdy case is invaluable, like my 900, whereas I have broken cheaper cases. My brothers case though that I just found him, was about 35, from a non name brand, but you could murder at least 6 or 7 prostitutes with it...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Unless you are doing some seriously intense photo work or rendering, 8gb of ram is indeed overkill. I am running dual monitors, with foobar converting from flac right now and a bunch of other crap, and I am only at 38% usage in windows 7 for my memory, my processor is capped out, but the memory...

How to ship an item sold on eBay?

Quote: Great advice for smaller boxes, but I think this wheel probably won't fit in there, but for future purchases, I love flat rate for the simplicity.

Quote:   Corsair, I know they are known for memory, but their PSU's has been rock solid for me. Also I don't know if I mentioned this before. Don't be afraid to spend money on a case now,  it is an investment, even if you decide to upgrade five years from now, chances are you will be...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Quote: What I did is just have like a couple bigger drives a 750 and a 500 as "storage" drives and my 64gb ssd runs my OS and a couple games like HON and a few others. I put my music on the other drives and I think my steam client is on there. 64gb may not seem like a lot, but if you...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Hmm, I have used Asus and Gigabyte boards now with no problem, MSI also tends to be good, but I am an Asus and Gigabyte fan, to each their own though. In terms of recommending another board, it just depends what you want it to do. To be more future proof, look for a board that has USB 3.0 and...

Help With Gaming PC - To those with knowledge, I need your help!

Sounds like a solid setup, if you can I'd go for a little higher end card, but it doesn't seem terrible. Your processor is fine, if anything, I would spend a little bit of money and grab an SSD. I just got one and while they are very expensive still, the load times are almost zero for most...

Software for converting large FLAC library to MP3 while maintaining folder structure?

x2 for Foobar, I say this because as you add new cds to your collection, there is an option in foobar where you can tell it to skip already existing files, so you can select all your cds and just hit convert and it only does the new ones, if you don't convert right away like me, this is a...

I feel like the biggest dummy.

Last time I had to have my ears cleaned out they shot water in it at a decent velocity and then scraped the inside, it is on my top 5 list of least favorite things in my life, but it happens more than I'd like as my ears seem to build up a lot of earwax when they get infected, which used to...
