    ESS 422H

I'm aware of that.. just showing their engineering prowess might not be all that.... Each to his own, as an engineer, I like to start with components that measure well where possible and then let my ears decide. I don't care if it's cheap Chinese or whatever. Love my cheap Chinese Topping DX7s...

I’d be wary of that Loxjie, there are known better options, options actually measured by third party https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-loxjie-d20-dac-and-headphone-amp.6011/

Personally I would stay about from the Schitt. If you want to learn why and also find plenty of other cheap DACs/headphones with good objective measurements, have a look here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?forums/digital-audio-converters-dacs.10/ Very happy with my Topping...

Bass settles down after a bit, otherwise doesn't change much with break in ... but what you describe sounds exactly how I felt about the original pair I received, the retuned pair is much better.

    ESS 422H

very much sounds like the original version - did you email and ask them? break in doesn't change much if anything, changing from old to retuned was instant and very noticeable.

    ESS 422H

Agreed on the break in, no surprise. However, the difference between the original sets they sold and the tuned sets are very significant, ie, it's immediately noticeable within seconds switching back and forth between the pairs.

NU62: curious, why do you quote posts and not add anything?

    ESS 422H

received my tuned pair yesterday - definitely sounds more open .... still going back and forth on the midrange - will give it a few days

Thanks @Mojo Warrior - keep us posted. I have to say mine did not change much with 200+ hours on them in terms of the rolled off treble. I do feel that the bass smoothed out and is no longer as pronounced. I just replaced the earpads as suggested above, didn't change that much to me and is...

    ESS 422H

Curious to hear what you find. Mine did not change much in terms of character, still dark. Yet I still keep listening to it, definitely some appeal to it. Very different experience than listening to my Shure SRH1540 through Sonarworks, I keep switching back and forth.

    Dac/Headphone Amp for Critical Listening

Not sure what your budget is but... Benchmark DAC3 (they come from pro audio background) Chord Hugo2 If looking for something a bit more modest price wise, checkout out audiosciencereview.com - something like the Topping DX7s is pretty damn nice for the price.

    ESS 422H

Can't seem to find any discussion on these, they've been out for a few weeks at least now I believe? I've been running a pair for almost 36 hours now, trying not to be too critical but hopefully they break in like AMT tweeters are renowned for breaking in ... very dark and rolled off in the...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Hi Rob Long story short, I'm seeing about 29ms delay with the Hugo 2, seems quite long, does that sound reasonable to you? Thank you!

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Hi @Rob Watts - quick question, I'm wondering if the delay propagation of the Hugo2 (and Qutest, assume they are the same) is constant? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to put together a multi-channel system (I have some convolution filters upstream to do room correction and low...

Help me reach headphone nirvana! (long - Grado/Senn content)

Oh a few more comments, sheesh it's hard to get all of this into a post While I don't think the RS-2s has quite the bass extension, I find it easier to follow a bass line on them, there's just the tad more air around the bass notes which makes them more intelligible, which is nice and...

Help me reach headphone nirvana! (long - Grado/Senn content)

Hi All, I've had my Sennheisers HD580 (stock cable) for a few years now, along with my trusty & beloved Wheatfield HA-1 (about to receive a tube upgrade). A week ago I bought a pair of Grado RS-2s. I use my headphone system at the office, close to 8 hours a day. 200gig firewire drive, FLAC...

Is there a bit perfect 44.1 usb card w/ coax out?

Hehe, this has been going round and round One would've thought that someone would've snapped up this opportunity and produce something, pretty incredible that there is no easy, cheap solution. It seems to me that the only way forward in the near future is DIY, with something like the...

Scott Nixon TubeDac+ and Chibi Saru differences?

In terms of sound I thinking of either one in context of my headphone system, laptop->Xitel Pro Link->DAC->Wheatfield HA-1->Sennheiser HD580 (might be replaced by Grado 225). Twindac is a little out of my reach right now Thanks! Peter Scott Nixon dacs

Any SF Bay area Grado dealers?

specifically in the south bay (Palo Alto/Cupertino) area would be convenient. Thinking of going from Senn 580s to Grado 225s. Thanks! Peter
