What is the difference between a desktop amp and a portable, such as a usb DAC amp combo? It can't be power....i bought the vividaudiotechnologies V1 usb DAC (great value), and they drive my hd600's very well, without putting the knob past the 12 o' clock position. what is there to gain...

christ man...audiophilia is so expensive. is there a "best value" amp out there? cheapest i've seen is $300. My HD-600's are already more expensive than my DAP, and i don't want another component being more expensive.
