Oh! It dawned on me you were maybe asking about the Voshkod Rockets? I have multiples of them. They’re my favorite. I won the tube lottery and got them stock with my VH2. Didn’t realize what they were at first. Assumed they weren’t anything special. But they are. The good ones—Soviet era...

So I bought mine from a head-fier, but Pulsetube store sells them: https://pulsetubestore.com/collections/all You need the 12Axx to ECC88 adapter and then one of the Brimar CV4033 from Pulsetube store OR The Brimar CV455. Langrex still has them...

I 100 percent agree with Ripper2860: never use cheap socket savers! The link provided above is what I have. That said, I don’t use mine currently. Got them to pair with the adapters to allow me to use 12Axx tubes. (Mostly for aesthetic reasons - like the back tubes higher). I have used them...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

So GoldenOne, Do you discuss / analyze / investigate the Schiit MegaCombo Burrito filter in any of your posts?

Also for the record, now that I think about it, I never did look at a high frequency sine or square wave on the scope with my Ares II.

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Thanks! Yeah, I was actually just about to post here saying basically “never mind! I figured it out!” There are just not that many samples in a 15khz sinewave sampled at 44.1khz! And yes my Ares II does indeed do linear interpolation in NOS mode, if memory serves. (And thus not true hold to...

Hi GoldenOne! Thanks for your posts! I don’t have the time to respond in full at the moment, and I’m replying here on the virtual keyboard on my iphone so I’m keeping this brief. But for now, there’s one thing I need clarification on from your post. You say “ And we can also see how...

Changing out the stock pads can and will affect the bass, so try that next! There are a lot of choices! I use the Auray Genuine Sheepskin earpads and really like them but I don’t think they are the choice if you want to de-emphasize the bass. Not sure though!

They do improve with listening hours but not by a lot, in my experience, but I will say that the synergy isn’t great with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm dongle. BUT, I absolutely love them with the JSAUX adapter! It’s like $14 on Amazon. Braided cable. Comes in colors. I mostly use these with...

So, now everyone knows who the awesome seller is! LOL! So, Guidostrunk, is there some sign that it will eventually go away--the crackle? Like does it get slightly better with each passing hour? Because the crackle on that one tube pretty much hasn't changed from the start. It's maybe...

I need to burn in my JJ gold pins, but for what it's worth, on initial listen, I actually thought that on the whole they weren't even as good as the stock tubes. But I'm starting to get the feeling that I lucked out somehow on my stock tubes. Now, the Brimar CV4033's on the other hand, those...

So one of my CV4033’s has a crackle / poor connection sound. I cleaned the pins with an eraser and 91 percent iso and reseated, but no joy. I also cleaned the adapters but I know it’s not them as the CV455’s were perfect. Any suggestions? Also, re: cleaning, I found the Tombow Mono Zero...

So I tried driving the headphones after removing power, turned volume up, etc, and it seems to make no difference in how long the white led says on. It’s very slowly dimming like normal. It’s been over 15 minutes now and I’m guessing there’s another 15 or 20 to go before it is out. And yes...

Um, definitely turn this off before sticking pliers inside it! There are some seriously high voltages inside! And not just while it’s plugged in but for awhile afterwards, stored in the caps. Turn off, unplug, wait until white light goes away, and then and only then change tubes or adapters...

Thanks for the quick replies! I have the Pulse phenolic not-made-in-china adapters as well as the socket savers, so hopefully no death grip! But, backing up, I have to say . . . Oh. My. God. Am I loving the Valhalla 2! Just with the stock tubes! I . . . don’t really have words . . . the...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

There is no way to select the sample rate on Bifrost. It automatically determines the sample rate of the incoming signal, and configures itself for the sample rate. And yes, of course, digital filtering must be done in the digital domain! LOL! Um, yeah, how else would it work? I shouldn't...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Hi sajunky! So, regarding the 192ks/s plot, I have not bypassed any DSP. There is no means to do that on the Bifrost, and on the ADI-2, the filter was still set to "SD Sharp" (in the original post). More importantly, I was using a program called "AudioTest" to generate bit-perfect 1kHz square...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

@Sonic Defender I thought you meant multiple trials of 20 rounds each, e.g. like 60 or 80 or 100 rounds total. If just 20, then yes, that doesn't seem unreasonable. But one single 2 minute section of a song isn't enough time. And yes, I have done this. Logic Pro actually has an ABX...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

OK, so here are the various RME ADI-2 DAC FS filters applied against a 1kHz -6dbFS square wave at a 96kHz sample rate. "SD" in the filter name stands for "short delay", meaning low latency, meaning it doesn't gather a bunch of samples first before acting, thus having low latency. It also means...

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I definitely agree with and sympathize with it, and I promise, yes, I will do controlled, blind tests if / when I get to that point. I'm pretty busy these days, so I don't know when I'll get to that, but I'm listening to the RME with the "Slow"...
