Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

Well, my second NuForce HA-200 arrived today.. Not even plugged in yet!

I ordered some of the mono cable connectors for the headphones from Meze last week, just waiting for those to arrive and then I can start making my new balanced cables up. XLRs are on the way, paracord is already here, and I have a couple of options for cable choice. Can't wait to hear the Meze's running from proper monoblocks! Am looking forward to getting the cables made too.
I heard from Lorand that Meze will be bringing out their own balanced cables in the near future and there may be a chance for them to go on a loan programme.

Hello there!

Yes, unfortunately, the Meze 99 Classics Maple Silver was discontinued for some time now. You can only find them through a few dealers who still stock them. We also have a few in stock shipping from Romania but we recommend you support your local dealer!

As for what @dadracer2 said regarding the balanced cables, that is correct, as you already know. They will be here soon. Is there anybody interested in testing them with the Meze 99 Classics and 99 Neo?

Hey Meze, If a Dual-XLR set is a possibility, I'd be over the moon to try them on my 99C with the monoblocks!

Congratulations! That's a really nice setup. I've also got a pair of HA-200's in balanced configuration and I like them a lot.

You can always build/buy an adapter with two xlr in one end and whatever balanced connection (2.5/3.5/xlr etc) you'd like in the other end, makes the system a lot more flexible in my experience.

If you really hate bass, and you must if the 99C is too much, then stuff a bunch of foam or cotton behind the drivers. Fill those cups up. That will reduce the low-frequency resonance, and level out the balance.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you, I really love my bass but prefer more subbass over midbass. Despite the 99C greatness I'd gladly exchange some of the midbass for a deeper and more impact full subbass on them......

Can't wait to try them out in a fully balanced configuration and finally finish my full review of them.

I wouldn't mind a little more subbass either. That's one of things I love about the NightOwl.

But you want to know how you can tell the 99C doesn't have too much mid-bass as is? The vocals are savagely clear. You don't get vocals like that if the mid-bass is bleeding over.

In my experience the midbass is indeed bleeding over a bit so obviously YMMV, as usual

Yeah ok, they are "a bit" but not enough to hurt anything. I refer again to the vocal clarity. When they are this good you know thing are balanced very well.
