Why? I figure the v1 box must be pretty much the same, I'll keep that.

Ok, let's wake this thread back up.
As good as my Hugo TT sounds with the HE1000, I'm wanting a sound with more fullness, weight, meat on the bones.
Looking for suggestions.

For perspective, in the living room, there is a PS Audio Direct Stream DAC, and Prima Luna HP integrated amp. The
PL amp has a really good headphone amp built in, and the latest PS DAC firmware is amazing. The HE1000 sounds awesome in this system. Unfortunately, I almost never get to listen here.

I would like to duplicate this level of quality st my listening station at the computer.

What headphone cables are you using? Not that a DAC and/or amp change can't address your problem, but I've been auditioning the Danacable Lazuli Reference and the fullness and richness it brings to the HE1000 (while retaining the details and airiness) is unbelievable. Waaay more than I wanted to spend on a cable, but I may make the plunge because it has just perfected the sound for me. I was already quite happy with these cans with my new Milo amp and I just can't believe how this cable just elevates the sound to another level. Excuse my enthusiasm, but it's really that good. might be the ticket for you (or a similar cable). I didn't think my chain was lacking before the LR, but when I go back to the stock cable now it has a thinner sound, a bit dry and edgy and the instrument separation and imaging loses a lot of definition. The only drawback on these cables to me are that they are relatively heavy. Not a deal breaker, actually doesn't bother me too much, but compared to the stock cable be ready to feel a difference.

Have heard the Danacable with the HE-560, it is truly a fine sounding cable, quite an upgrade over stock. Using Norne Zoetic with my HE-1000, also good (not quite the Dana, but half the price, gets a good bit of the way there; and, it is more flexible, and more attractive, if these mean anything to you). I wouldn't stick with the stock cable...

I'm using the stock v2 cable. I thought the new cable was quite an improvement over the original HE1000 cable, so much so that I stopped using my Cardas clear headphone cable.
I've heard the excellent Dana Cables at shows, but that cable cost 1/3 the price of the headphones! Can't justify spending that much.

v2 pads are available!
Great news! My pair is already on its way (via Swiss distributor and local store). It took a lot of persuading, though. Now I'm curious how my modified and repadded V1 compares to the V2.

Has anyone had the opportunity to try the new v2 pads on the He-Kv1 yet? If so, could you post some comparative impressions? Personally I have just received the V2 pads in the mail, but I haven't yet tried them on the He-Kv1 yet, because I have to set up a special rig and listening station for that, owing to my present circumstances, and it is going to take a while before I get around to doing that. Still I'm impatient to learn about the real world difference (if any) that the new pads might make on the He-Kv1, so if you have experienced the new V2 pads, please do not hesitate to share your impressions.

Okay, does anyone know where I can find step-by-step instructions for removing and replacing the earpads on the v1 with v2 earpads? I am finding removing the v1 earpads to involve a process that is neither easy nor intuitive, and I do not want to damage anything in the process, so some guidelines would be highly appreciated.

Watch the first minute of this video:

I tend to break things, but I found removing the ear pads to be pretty straightforward. Just be careful not to touch any of the inside parts to avoid accidentally perforating the diaphragm.

Auric: Thanks a lot.
