Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
I ended up getting the Fiio e12. I figured I would stick with just an amp for now and I can always upgrade to an amp/dac or get a portable dac in the future. The e12 sounds great with the Mad Dogs! I listen to a lot of live recordings (Grateful Dead, Phish, Disco Biscuits, etc...) and I find...- zachdini

Mr. Speakers Mad Dog 3.0 - 3.2 Amp Pairing Recommendation/Discussion Thread
Oh really? Slightly dark? That's interesting... I've read most people say the E12 is slightly bright. But I guess everyone has a different set of ears, haha. Do you have any opinion on the iBasso d42? The d12 looks great but it's a little more than I was looking to spend. The d42 looks like...- zachdini

Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
I've heard great things about the O2/ODAC but it doesn't really seem to be that portable. I know that it technically is but I see a lot of size comparisons and people seem to call it trans-portable instead of portable. What do you think? I see what you mean about growing out of a setup or...- zachdini

Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
Is that the iBasso D12 you're talking about or is there another one you'd recommend? This is my first step into getting amps/dacs for my headphones so I was hoping to spend somewhere around the price of $150-200 to get my feet wet.- zachdini

Mr. Speakers Mad Dog 3.0 - 3.2 Amp Pairing Recommendation/Discussion Thread
I'm interested in opinions on the e12, too. I was going to get the JDS c5d amp/dac but since a few people have said it doesn't have enough power, I'm looking into other things. Portable amps (with a possible dac) in the $150 range would be great!- zachdini

Mr. Speakers Mad Dog 3.0 - 3.2 Amp Pairing Recommendation/Discussion Thread
I just ordered a pair of Mad Dogs and have been looking into portable amps to pair them with. I'm really leaning towards the JDS c5 or possibly the c5d so that I'd have a DAC to go with it. I see that some people question whether the c5 has enough power to drive Mad Dogs. Does anyone use the c5...- zachdini

How would I connect my devices?
Ahh okay, thank you! I was under the impression that I could avoid double-amping even with just an amp by using a LOD with a phone. But I'm guessing that since I'd only have an amp and no DAC, I'd have to use the 3.5mm out? Are there many downsides to doing this? I've read people talking...- zachdini

How would I connect my devices?
Thanks for the help. For the c5d, I read that you could use the camera connection kit (lightning to 30pin adapter) and then a LOD to bypass the internal iPhone DAC. Is this incorrect? If I were to get a dedicated DAC in the future, would I be able to use the c5d as just an amp? I'm guessing...- zachdini

How would I connect my devices?
I recently purchased Mad Dogs and I'm leaning towards either getting the c5 amp or c5d to use with them. I will be using either my iPhone 5 or MacBook Pro as a source. I'm a little confused as to how I would connect my devices to an amp or DAC. If I get the c5d, on my laptop would I use the...- zachdini

Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
Do you think they'll work well with the c5? From what I've been reading, it seems like I might enjoy the sound from the c5 a little more than the e12. Also, how much of a difference does a DAC make? I was planning on getting an amp first and getting a separate DAC down the road when I have...- zachdini

Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
I'm really leaning towards the c5. It looks like it's a little more neutral than the e12 and it's smaller which would be easier to carry around. I've read that Mad Dogs like a good amount of power. Would the power that the c5 gives off be enough?- zachdini

Portable amp to use with Mad Dogs
I just ordered a pair of Mad Dogs after trying them out yesterday and now I'm looking for a portable amp to go with them! I mainly listen to my iPhone/laptop as a source on the train or at my school library so portability is important. I'm looking at the $150 range but I could stretch it a...- zachdini

Mad Dogs viable for portable use?
Thanks, that's what I'm really close to doing. I think, for now until I save some money for a nice DAC, I'll also feed my laptop into the E12 unless that would totally screw something up?- zachdini

Mad Dogs viable for portable use?
That looks interesting but I'm not sure that would work for me. I mainly use my iPhone to connect to my music server back at home. I was thinking that I would just go iPhone/laptop -> amp -> headphones. Do I need a dac for everything to work properly? I know I'd get better sound but for a...- zachdini
