That's the thing I can't take any clamping gives me serious migraines and to boot it off my head's as wide as the damn box these earphones came in lol I'll let you guess what the setup looks like when I have them on :P

In my case it's both. Clamping like stated earlier I've fixed by increasing the angle of the two supporting headbands. Earcup depth though is another altogether and I won't be tampering with it until I've broken them in. This might affect the sound and I don't to until I have a stable reference...

Actually the tension is given by the two overhead rods that also support the cans so I just applied opposite force on the curve at few places to give it a wider stance and voilà! Headache relieved! Gotta love the KISS principle ;)
