The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Haha,   NEVER buy any upper 100$ iem without detach-cable. That's my philosophy. Had this been a the FX-750, it would've been a re-cable and god knows what can happen during that process.   Currently borrowing my bro's shure cable. No changes can be noticed.

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Fell as sleep with the FX850 on, woke up, discovered the wire is shorted (wiggle the wire and sound came back, so it's a typical cable failure, everything else is fine)   Anybody who upgraded their cable willing to sell me the stock cable? Please let me know. I quite like the stock cable and...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

I've done a pretty comprehensive comparison between the H3 and FX850 a couple of months back on this forum. You can try looking for it.   To get to the point though, the FX850 has harder hitting bass, better control and is more prominent compared to the H3, definitely bass heavy. The H3 can...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Driver is made of all wood, likely birch, cut in thin slides and then soak in sake to soften, triple-stamped and then treated with thermo-bonding epoxy to moist-proof and voila....   The rest is probably made of ABS (tip nozzle is quite thin but sturdy, still, careful with them) , and aluminum...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Man, that would be an interesting read. Though I doubt they'd care enough to spend any money on it. The topic of burn-in is not exactly invigorating among the scientific community.   For a 300$ iem, and being the large engineering firm JVC is, they'd have engineers responsible for testing the...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

After all these hours listening to the fx850's, I'm quite happy with them.   It seems like the consensus on the sound signature of the fx850 on this forum match quite close with actual listening experience.   One note about the treble of the fx850: it is competent, extends quite well with...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Aye, the soundstage is one of the strengths of the FX850. Sounds very wide for an iem.   I must thank Dsnuts too for his recommendation.   I must clarify though, the burn-in should be done by actually listening to the iem. It will do nothing if you just leave it on all day and not listen to...

One USB HUB to Rule Them All

Nice one man, I was considering the same thing too.   Couldn't you just check the quality of the power signal by simply crank up the volume to max and listen to the level of noise? if there's no noise or significantly less noise when comparing to the stock set up then that means the power is...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Just tried it, if what you're describing is a humming, sort of static like sound, then I hear it too. It's the way it's supposed to be.   And there are statistic that points out burn in don't do much to the technicalities of your iems, the burn in sound be done by actually listening to your...

Haha, you're right, we must learn from mochill's tragedy (he pulled the mmcx somehow)   Buckeye burl + brush aluminum =

Definitely. Black stain wood on shiny black metal would look very classy. Black wood on silver would be another great combo.

Ah, I see your from the land of the spinning windmills. But I see your point. At 414 + tax might as well save a bit more and go full custom.   For me the detachable cable offer a sort of security, if the cable is screwed up, I could get a decent replacement MMCX OFC cable for about 50-60$.  ...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Cheers!!!   I'm curious of how the FX650 sound. I bet it still is sublime, but in smaller form factor.   I got the FX850 for 278$+20$ shipped. For a custom you'd certainly have to spend a bit more than 300$ (ear impressions on top of the earphones). Cheapest customs at around 300-400$ might...

May be you could replace the cable and since the strain reliefs are shorter, you can put the wire over the ear?   They are quite heavy 10 grams vs 8 grams (H3). Plus the cable themselves weight quite a bit. Personally I'm having great fit and the durable cable is welcomed too.
