The Ear Pads Thread (post questions or say what ear pads worked for you)

Hey all. I'm currently wearing the Shure 840 pads on my slightly modded Fostex T50RP's. I really, really like the buttery soft feel of the 840's but have been looking at upgrading to either a Dekoni or ZMF pad that is slightly thicker. With the 840's as the benchmark, I'm not sure which...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Hey all, I'm having a minor issue and figured this was the thread to ask. I custom made a comfort strap for my T50Rp's. As you know, the comfort straps fasten with 2 screws, 1 screw per side. Currently, 1 screw will slowly loosen up a bit. If I don't re-tighten, it will eventually cause the...

    Fostex T50RP Mod / Shure 840 Pads

I have 840 pads on right now but they have a tendency to slip off.  The leather on the ear-pad "flange" is pretty soft + the outer plastic cup of the Fostex is angled.  So it doesn't grab very well.  Is there anything to use to help the 840 ear-pad grab the ear cup better?  Something tacky?  ...

    M-Audio HDH50 - the successor to the popular Q40

Sounds like they clamp lightly, or average?  Unlike most, I prefer solid clamping so they don't fall off my head.  If I take the Fostex T50RP's for example, I actually bent the headband for a more solid clamp which I would say....is 8 out of 10.  What would you give these?

What's the clamping pressure like with the HDH-50's?  Isolation?

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Getting back to the clay used for mass loading the baffles, I recently picked up "Plastalina" by Van Aken at my our local (Newly opened) Hobby Lobby.  I picked up a pound for $3.57 USD.  Pretty cheap.  I did some research and like Newplast, it is an oil based clay and not polymer / PVC.  The...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

I was just looking for some backups... or specs on the screws so I would search at the local HW Store in case I strip the heads.  I came close to doing this as the screws came tight from the factory.  I'm good for now as I'm not tightening them as much as stock.  Stripping the inside baffle is...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

I didn't use this exact clay but I'm pretty sure the chemistry of it is the same.  Not taking any chances.  Looks like I'll be removing the clay and cleaning the baffles as best I can with a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol, which I assume would be good for cleaning any leftover oily residue.  BMF...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

So, last night I checked a baffle where I installed the bake shop clay about a week ago (Clay is by "Sculpy").  I removed the clay from one section and checked for anything out of the ordinary.  Clay came out easily and so far nothing out of the ordinary.  I did read on links posted here that...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Curious if anyone knows the spec's on the small screws that hold the driver to the cup.  They seem like they would strip real easy at the Phillips head if you aren't too careful.  They look to be too small for what's stocked at my hardware store, but you never know.   I'm new to modding these...

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Just curious which mods contribute most to closing the headphone up?  Closing bass ports / Stuffing with cotton or wool / mass loading baffles.....  As an entry level modder, I would suspect all of these (some contributing more than others).  What other steps would contribute?   Also, has...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Wow, really?  That much?  I guess I really can't get these then. It's too bad.  I really need some isolation, from the inside of the cups and for others around me.  Otherwise what's the point.

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Regarding the large amount of sound leakage with the HE-400's, has anyone out there done any mods to significantly reduce this leakage?  Or does the design of the HE-400 driver require this level of openness to sound good, meaning, don't bother and look elsewhere for other models.  My guess is...
