Shure SE530 died after ~10 years. What to get now?
Hey folks! I've been out of the headphone game for many, many years. I bought Shure E500s (later replaced by Shure to SE530 after cable died) waaaaay back in 2007. They were so good that I basically stopped looking for IEMs after that. Tragically, the right cable on my SE530 has now died...- The_X

Anyone listen with Nokia Phones?
Sorry to bump an older topic, but I've owned the Lumia 520 for 3 months now and the sound quality is excellent! To my ears the sound is very organic with a low noise floor on my Shure SE530. I was honestly shocked that this $80 phone sounded so good, when my expensive old HTC Evo 4G LTE was so...- The_X

Post your computer specs!~
Is Bitcoin mining actually economical? Like, can you get back a profit after factoring in electricity and reasonable payback time on the computer? I just got this beautiful Thinkpad W510: 1920x1080 95% Adobe gamut 15.6" display Core i7-820QM processor 12 gb RAM 160 gb 7200 rpm...- The_X

Why is ripping to FLAC so sensitive? And is there a sturdier ripper out there?
EAC, unfortunately, is just horrendously slow on this computer. I don't really have the time to play with every single setting, so DBPowerAmp tends to be more practical. I'll give CDex a shot. I have some suspicions that my CD drive might be crappy--it is the built-in unit on my Elitebook...- The_X

Pretty much like the one on top, but with a few surface scratches. Never interferes with playback or mp3 ripping.- The_X

Why is ripping to FLAC so sensitive? And is there a sturdier ripper out there?
Hey everyone, I'm in the process of ripping my collection to FLAC. However, I'm running into some trouble--both EAC and DBPowerAmp seem incredibly sensitive to errors! It can take 10 minutes to rip a troublesome track, and I just don't have that much time to deal with errors. I've never had...- The_X

Pen-Fi (FPs, RBs, BPs, etc...) [56k Warning]
I've had a lime green Lamy Safari with Aurora Blue for about a year now. Since then, I have owned, enjoyed, and lost a Lamy Studio and Lamy 2000!! I am just not destined to own expensive pens, it seems. Yesterday, I picked up a second Safari in the matte charcoal color with some brown J...- The_X

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?
Quote: You are oversimplifying a lot. It's more like spending $595 on E500/SE530's, with the distinct possibility of future repairs. High end headphones should last a long time, period. I had Etymotic ER-4P's for several years with no problems.- The_X

Remolding costs $117, because I can get the molds done by an ENT friend for free. And I certainly expect a $450 earphone to last longer than three years!!- The_X

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?
I received a canned response basically saying the same thing. Rather disappointed that they don't stand behind their product more, but I will likely do a remold/recable from Inearz. No more Shures for me in the future! Quote: It seems like Shure doesn't really understand how...- The_X

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?
So I just took a careful look around, and a set of Denon AH-D2000's are just $215 on Amazon! I don't really need the small size of the E500's these days, although their sound quality really needs no qualifiers. However, it's still hard to justify spending $145 on a new set that might crack...- The_X

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?
Oh... bummer! I've been away from Head-Fi for a while and it seems like there is a huge influx of new earphone models. So you guys think I might be able to do better getting new headphones for $145ish? I'm not sure how far the industry has come. It seems like a couple years ago, the...- The_X

Shure wants $145 to fix my E500 cables--Do it? Or move on?
I don't need a custom fit. I'm very happy with the stock shape, I just need a basic recable. I emailed Kim from Fisher Hearing. Is there anywhere else I could get the cables repaired without actually going all the way to a custom mold?- The_X
