What DIP sockets are audio quality?

.... you are adding something which does not benefit the system, and therefore should be omitted. You are adding additional inductance in series with each lead. That makes the bypass capacitor just a bit further away. The stray capacitance increases by a couple pF. A socket is ALWAYS a...

    Opamp vs. Transistors?

On an IC level, the parasitic capacitance and inductance is reduced. The devices are very close to thermal equilibrium, and all devices within a single die match each other quite well. Discrete designs allow more current in each stage as the power dissipation is shared across many packages...

    Easy DIY bass-boost?

You would need to know the impedance of the headphones vs. frequency. An inductor and resistor in parallel would boost the bass. Values TBD. The inductor would need to be aircore (or very linear) to not add distortion.

    Do HP amps need gain?

Are standard line levels sufficient for achieving max volumes on headphones? That is, can a unity gain amp be used by itself, in conjunction with a passive volume control, to achieve suitable loudness? I don't have a particular headphone in mind; I currently use generic cheapies. I'm looking...

    Post pics of your builds....

Here's a plot of my current project. It's a discrete amplifier. JFET input, diamond output stage. Targeting peak output of 1W into 8 ohms. Designed for ±8V power supplies. The bias is very squirrely. I need to go back to my sims to find a less sensitive operating point.

    Perplexing DC Offset Problem

On an IC datasheet, many times you see typical numbers posted prominantly. Device to device variation can be significant. You may have an op amp whose Vos and IOS cancel each other with your component values. In the next circuit, they add to each other. Also, I agree you could have an...

    Dimond Buffer Abstracts

Now I have a fixture designed to survive longer. 1 - I use a MAX400 op amp as the front end. This accurate but slow amp prevents high output slewing, which is what kills this thing 2 - I use a diode biased 2n3904/2n3906 output stage. I ganged four of each transitor types in parallel each...

    Dimond Buffer Abstracts

The Maxim circuit in the original post is mine! I've blown it up a few times, as I drive it with a function generator into capacitive loads. I never meant it to be used for audio, but you can tell my frame of mind when I designed it. Has anyone used the circuit?
