Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?
Just got my 660s in. Let it burn in for a few hours as it sounded very muddy out of the box. Definitely opened up just in a few hours. I'm a long time Grado fan. I was huge into rock when I was younger, so Grados were my thing. Over time my music tastes have expanded quite a bit so I thought it...- sonicm

Xduoo Amplifiers
How do you like your Valhalla? I was highly considering that one, but what turned me off was the description on their website that says "If you’re expecting syrupy, tubby, euphonically colored tube sound, you’re in for a shock. Valhalla 2 is exceptionally accurate, neutral, and resolving...- sonicm

Xduoo Amplifiers
@roderickvd @dsrk @mayurs Ahh that makes sense. I definitely want that classic tube sound, I want the full experience with this amp so I'm gonna want a OTL. After days of research and comparing, I decided to go with the Ta-26, as its got the best price and rating at this level. I'm still not...- sonicm

Xduoo Amplifiers
I'm back in the audiophile scene after a loooong hiatus. I'm considering the TA-30 as my first tube amp, but I'm worried it isn't 'tube-y' enough. I want the full tube amp experience, can the ta-30 provide that? Part of the reason I'm picking it is because I don't have a DAC. But I could also...- sonicm

Help me choose my first tube amp and DAC?
I want to buy my first desktop tube amp. The thing is, I don't have a dedicated DAC so I'll need to get one of those too. I'd like to spend about $600-700. I was looking at the xDuoo TA-30 Tube AMP/Dac combo for $600. It looks like it might be a great choice, although it's a little obscure. I...- sonicm

Audio Software and Optimizers
Yeah in my experience most of what that provides is the options. For example I liked that with foobar a few plugins gives me the ability to use ASIO and kernel streaming which both skip internal processing. I also like setting up chains of filters, which it does well. Ultimately though yes...- sonicm

Different impedance in headphones: how and why??
So I was shopping for a pair of headphones, when in the reviews of a certain pair I read "There are variants to the 990 that come as low as 32 ohm and as high as 600 ohm". Now I know only this one company makes the same model in different impedance. But I've never considered impedance as a...- sonicm

Looong time out of the headphone game.. where to now?
Hey guys, So it's gotta have been at least 4 years now since I've been here regularly. Even much longer since I've made a purchase. I've been really busy, and just enjoying my Grado SR-325's + NuForce uDAC 2 HP dac/amp setup. It's served me really well, but I think it's time for me to get back...- sonicm

Audigy 2ZS outputting a loud popping sound with heavy CPU use?
Hello again, Head-fi I've been having a problem with my Audigy 2ZS for a long time now. Whenever my CPU begins to do something resource-intensive I can hear the CPU whirring but everything is fine with my Audigy, but when the CPU slows down and the whirring along with it, my Audigy outputs a...- sonicm

Good tube sound simulator (DSP)
The Foobar DSP 'Tube Sound' is supposed to be another one. I use it myself because I like the subtle effect, but I've never actually used a tube amp so I don't know if it's actually accurate. More info+download at http://www.skipyrich.com/wiki/Main_P...oo_dsp_tube.29- sonicm

Getting errors in SRC when playing WMA files
Whenever I play WMA files while Secret Rabbit Code resampler is on, the song starts skipping a LOT, so much so that the entire song finishes in about 20 seconds. Nothing I try seems to fix this, except for turning it off. If I go to the console while playing a WMA file with SRC on it says "ERROR...- sonicm

Post Your Photography Here #2
None of it is anything special, these are just four of the better shots that I've taken. I'm not even quite sure why I like this one. Greatest playlist ever. Yup. Pennies. I think I just got lucky with this one.- sonicm
