I can only compare with headphones I own, of course, so it is a mish mash and will be comparing headphones designed with totally different ends in mind.  But compared with Grado SR80 the soundstage is both wider and deeper. Compared with the sony F1 I find the soundstage to be deeper though...

You might look at the Sony MDR MA900 or secondhand Sony MDR F1. They don't touch the ears at all. Similarly, the AKG K1000 is suspended over the ears although could not be described as "affordable" unless you have a bit of spare cash.
