Blind Testing : Tube Amps vs SS Amps

yeah I know a mastering engineer that was at Sheffield Labs (when they existed). Not really a bad SQ label. :) Trust me, this engineer knows sound.

Only believe your own ears! (Or how I discovered the HD 598SE)

Sure I can. Not everybody lives in an area with good return policies like the USA. If you do, good for you, but not all of us are in that situation.    Laptop ? Damn right I test drove it in the Apple reseller by running bash scripts in the terminal but then again its *NIX based so I...

Blind Testing : Tube Amps vs SS Amps

I wouldn't say pleasant, but different. If you take your Marshall amp and measure the output with a B&K SPL meter within the amps comfort zone say 85db from a sitting position from the speakers. Then then have a friend swap the amp with an SS amp and measure the output and listen. Then...

Have you ever told you audiophile friends in real life...

That could be due to the "electrical" characteristics of the components (ie impedance matching, etc). I highly doubt it has ANYTHING to do with a combination being able to reproduce music more accurate than another.

Blind Testing : Tube Amps vs SS Amps

You can make a SS amp distort like a Tube amp. The 2 are different in their distortion characteristics and noise floor. Given a certain volume level (tolerance), it is near impossible to distinguish in a double blind test. You can immediately tell when they reach their boundary conditions since...

How is Soundstage Simulated WIth IEM's?

Unless the recording is done with coincident mics on a dummy head, you're not going to get an accurate soundstage reproduction in IEMs. The sound cues you get from IEMs is probably the worst conditions you can have for reproducing a stage.

What design factors in headphones create soundstage?

Well I never put Staging as a necessary component into selecting a headphone. Same goes for imaging. No matter what, it aint gonna happen. It's physics, the time alignment and signal propagation from the sound source to your ears will make it impossible to get anywhere near real life or home...

Have you ever told you audiophile friends in real life...

All the time and even made money on wagering with a Blind test with equipment swapped matter fact if they can prove 50/50 I was willing to pay up but it so lopsided in my favor it is easy-money.

Power Cables, any way to test?

"So you've listened for yourself and not heard a difference?  This is the Sound Science forum; can you provide ANY sort of backup for your claims that power cables can and will never affect sound quality?"   Can you quantitatively prove that cables improve sound? What if your reference to...

USB 2.0 vs 3.0 & "cheap brand" power cables vs china cables

Use the 90/10 rule as in Home audio. Spend 90% of your budget on the transducers and the 10% on everything else. The transducers are THE most important part of any audio reproduction system.

Um would you buy a car based on magazine reviews or online reviews, instead of test-driving the car?     Probably not. Same rule applies to anything you buy, at least with me.

What are the best headphones to get for HipHop or EDM?

For hip-hop, I would think a headphone with good amount of bottom end. I don't think the sennheisers would cut it for hiphop but that's just me. I would pick the Beats if I were you.
