    Thank you HeadRoom!

I agree - thanks for sending the gear to the 2011 West Michigan meet. I love my coffee cup!

    West Michigan Meet

I am going to try to make it. I can bring RE-Zero, JH13, K701, and HE5-LE. I also have an emu 0404USB and Headroom Desktop (2010).

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

I have no complaints with driving the monitors with the Desktop. The speakers could certainly be better, but when I don't want to listen to headphones for 10+ hours a day, they make a good alternative. Any fault is not in the Desktop, that's for sure!

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

For anyone who was interested on the real world test of this, I am using the Desktop going to some powered studio monitors via the rear output. I set the monitors to -30db gain (lowest setting) and use medium gain on the Desktop. If there is any degradation of sound, I cannot hear it. I get to...

    iPhone 4

Quote:   If you are talking about an iphone 4, then I did. I had a 3G previously. It is a substantial upgrade. Nothing new to write other than what is out there already. The screen is very nice (as expected), it has the antenna shorting issue, and it is significantly faster than the 3G...

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

Yeah I heard the Desktop at CanJam. I previously had a Micro (2006) but sold it to finance an IEM purchase. I picked up an emu 0404 (USB) for home in the meantime, but wasn't as pleased with it. I use it as a recording input too so it was a good deal. With the discounts HeadRoom offered at...

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

@P'Alfredo you're welcome! I am glad that my obsessiveness actually had a benefit to someone else for once :)   Let us know how it turns out, and what you end up buying. It seems no one addressed your original question of tube amps. The Little Dot series looks like they are decent amps at a...

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

Here was my answer back from  Jorge @ Head Room Quote:   Now we know!

Do you listen to music as musicians or audiophiles?

Like logwed, it depends on the scenario for me. Sometimes I listen for learning purposes, trying to figure out a passage of guitar work, why it sounds so good, or what not. Sometimes it is just background music.   I like live music recordings more - they move me more than most studio stuff...

Replacements for my old Shure e3's

I have RE-Zero, and I like them more than my e3. I have never heard the RE-0, but based on what I'm hearing in the RE-Zero and the fact that they are very similar, I think you would really enjoy them. If you can get an RE-Zero when they go on sale, that would be a choice too.

How loud do you normally listen and for how long?

I listen for 3-12 hours a day at around 60db +/- 3. I listen to the same volume via headphones or speakers. Sometimes that is a bit higher, but I aim to get progressively lower in volume throughout the day.   I'd guess I'm at about 70db via IEM when playing at church for about 90 minutes...

    Struggling with upgrade

Quote:   I had the honor of explaining what a "record" was to my (youngest) daughter - she's 4. She said "That's big." She then asked if she could use my iPhone to listen to music. That made me feel old. I almost launched into the "when I was a kid..." speech, but she doesn't believe I...

    Audeze LCD2 vs Sennheiser HD800??

Quote: Thanks for the wealth of data and explanations. I am already in the top 1% of the general population with regards to knowledge about headphones (as is anyone else hanging out on head-fi), but there difference between myself and the guys who really know their stuff is a lot bigger...

    Struggling with upgrade

Quote: Are you using any sort of phono pre-amp? I'm "too young" to have any experience with vinyl (being only 29), but I thought that my speaker setup would need a phono preamp. If that's not the case, I'll have to buy a turntable sooner rather than later.   Head-fi is going to cost...

Using the Destktop as a standalone DAC

Quote: I totally agree. We're going to be biased and keep second guessing ourselves. I would say we may even hear things that are not there or would be anyway, and we chalk them up as defects for our "less than ideal" setup. I understand that the line out is volume and gain controlled...
