Looking for a closed-back upgrade from HI2050
Thanks for the replies! Right now my main source is my laptop (Dell XPS 15 9550). It drives the Takstar HI2050 (which has a 60 Ohm impedance) at low volume without any problems whatsoever, though they don't really "come alive" until I turn it up a little bit louder (about 1/3 of full volume)...- Shelvo

Looking for a closed-back upgrade from HI2050
Hi all, I love my Takstar HI2050 headphones, but I just moved in with a bunch of roommates and we will frequently be sharing study space so I figured that open backs were not the way to go. Additionally, I have a bit more a budget to play with now, so I figured it was time for an upgrade. Let...- Shelvo

1) Good to hear you got it working. Just out of curiosity, what was the problem? 2) Congrats on your new 'phones! 3) Good luck on finals (I'll be taking mine as well)!- Shelvo

Glad I could help :) I've found that most of the applications that require Pulse aren't really the type that an Arch user finds worthwhile anyway, so there's probably not much loss to you (especially if you can't remember why you installed it :P). As far as the HDMI sound not working, have...- Shelvo

Also, if you want to see my setup, I made a post on the Arch Linux Google+ community about it a while ago. I've since fixed some issues though, so I'll do another post and link it here. https://plus.google.com/107315390005978931013/posts/Mn6n2cLbbmd Personally, I've never understood the...- Shelvo

Hey, Agahnim, and welcome to the community! If you want to improve audio quality on your Arch setup (I have done a bit of research into this myself in the past), my first piece of advice is this: Ditch PulseAudio. I'm serious. PulseAudio automatically downmixes everything to a...- Shelvo

What's the longest you've ever gone without hi-fi audio?
It's been over 3 months since my only decent pair of headphones (Gemini HSR-100) broke (bad driver from the start, I suspect). I then switched back to my no-fi Rosewill RHM-556 headphones, which were okay for a little bit. No longer enjoyable to listen to music, but they worked. Then the jack on...- Shelvo

I use a multithreaded version of mplayer for movies, and vlc for everything else. It all runs fine on my 2006-ish laptop.- Shelvo

Dissappointed Sennheiser MOMENTUM Owner Looking for Recommendations
Wow, thanks for all the suggestions guys! I've really liked what I've been reading about the HP50, especially because it is, as many have described it, "slightly warmer than neutral," which is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Like I lengthily explained in my first post, I want a can...- Shelvo

Could you direct me to the NAD Viso and HP150 feedback you're referring to (with respect to your statement about "dissatisfied buyers" and "absolutely gushing")?- Shelvo

Dissappointed Sennheiser MOMENTUM Owner Looking for Recommendations
The NAD Viso hp50 is an interesting headphone to mention, especially comparing it tho the PSB M4U 1. They were designed by the same person and seem to have largely the same sound signature and qualities about them. I think my next headphone might be one of those two. The PSB seems to be more...- Shelvo

Sennheiser Momentum on-ear or ATH m50, which one to get?
The Momentum on-ears are something I just can't recommend. The clamping pressure is too much and becomes painful. Also, they're bass and treble monsters which cover up the mids and make the music sound slightly murky without detail. Maybe they'll do well for your EDM, but I still think that...- Shelvo

Reply to review by 'shelvo' on item 'PSB M4U 1'
A question to the reviewer (rider4life), as he listens to some of the same music I do: How do you feel these perform with the film artists you mentioned? Specifically, do they allow those artists' works to sound like an ensemble? If you wouldn't mind, here's my dilemma...- Shelvo

Thanks so much for the quick responses, everybody! I appreciate that you took the time to read my post, I know it's long :P While the Yamaha may not be the best choice for me since it's not very isolating, those PSBs are looking very tempting right now... especially when people are singing the...- Shelvo

New studio headphones?
A headphone that I recently owned might suite your needs and liking. It sounds like the Gemini HSR1000 or Takstar Pro 80 (they are basically the same headphone) would be good for you. Pretty flat signature (for the studio work), very good and enjoyable across a wide range of genres, over ear and...- Shelvo
