Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?

not a lot, which is why i said if the options are otherwise identical.  that means in cost as well, though i suppose the amount i'd pay for such a difference is more than zero. Quote:

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?

it's funny (to me) that i basically agree with both bigshot and jnjn here.  audibility *is* the only thing that matters, but electronics should also be designed to keep unwanted elements as far from audibility as possible.  there's no audible difference if noise introduced by your equipment is...

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?

Nobody said this should be the procedure.  Regardless, I had no expectation of sameness.  In fact, I had an expectation of difference after reading so many reviews on here talking about how different their different pieces of gear sounded.  Hearing none was a surprise. Quote:   And...

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?

i don't think that's true at all.  my hearing tops out at 17-18khz now and i don't have any trouble discerning those two when paying attention, but i also know what sort of sounds to listen for to decide.  if you took some well-chosen tracks and 15 minutes to educate an average person i think...

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

i've run headphones off the speaker posts of a virtue one T-amp, both the lcd-2 and he-6.  it works just fine, though the noise floor was a little higher than on amps designed for headphones.  i didn't actually measure it, but it wasn't really a big deal when music was playing.  just make sure...

Dilemma: Should I not believe any reviewers who talk about cables or just ignore that section of their review?

Doing blind tests of your equipment isn't very expensive (actually cheap compared to the typical costs of the components involved), or very difficult.  All you need are some cables, switch boxes, an accurate voltmeter, and a friend.  I don't even do blind tests, because I can't tell a difference...

They *do* tell you perceivable detail, because that is exactly what frequency response is measuring ... namely whether or not any information is being lost in transmission through your gear.  They do not tell you the first two things, because those aren't defined audio concepts. Quote:

These reasons, and their wonderful appearance, are why I'll be buying a Q cable if I decide to keep the LCD2s (still need to compare them to T1 and HE-500).  The sound will be the same, aside from the microphonics making it less annoying to move around while listening. Quote:

    The Stax thread (New)

can anybody identify these?  they're pro bias, and i just picked them up from a craigslist ad along with an srd-p (the no battery/pro bias only version) and srm1mk2.  construction seems a little poor, but they work fine and sound pretty decent so far.  i see no markings on them whatsoever aside...

The Optimal Sample Rate for Quality Audio

perhaps you misunderstood me.  short version: what lavry stated as the nyquist theorem in the paper is not the actual theorem. Quote:

New Vinyl's, are they worth it?

i don't get stuff on vinyl for quality reasons.  i get it for basically all the reasons that it was initially abandoned in favor of cd: large size for visual appeal (both jackets and discs), tactile nature, and more finicky playback.  even though i can't hear any difference aside from the...

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

just received my vegan bamboo lcd2 earlier this week.  i'm still putting them through their paces but the mids seem a bit more recessed than in the ones i tried out before :/

The Optimal Sample Rate for Quality Audio

i would be pretty surprised if any human can actually hear a difference between 96 and 192kHz sampling rate.  even if there's somebody that can i doubt the difference is worth doubling the storage and processing requirements (or more, i'm not really familiar with whether or not...
