Have I found the best Monitor headphones for $100 or less?!

Quote:   I own both the HD280s and the ATH-M50s so I just wanted to say that the Audio-Technica is way better than the Sennheiser in this case. I love Sennheisers, my main headphone is the HD650, but the ATH-M50 is an absolute bargain at $100, I paid nearly twice that much for mine a few...

    Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review

Quote: Yeah, it's very difficult and I definitely prefer speakers to headphones. I was just trying to give the guy and idea of how they compare in terms of detail, top-to-bottom coherence, neutrality, etc. Obviously I don't have measurement equipment so I just gave him a subjective...

    Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review

Not sure on the HD600s, but I have HD650s and the Airmotivs are not even slightly close. They sound very good, I had them for the 30 day audition period but decided to return them. I didn't feel the 6s were really competitive in the $800 price range, but if they were priced as Audioengine...

Music streaming services.... which ones do you use?

I love Spotify, well worth $10 a month (you can get it free with ads, $5 a month for double the bitrate and unlimited listening or $10 a month to get it on your smartphone, I use it on my iPhone every time I'm in the car) the sound quality is really good for a streaming service (~320kbps Ogg...

Audioengine 2, not what I expected.

The A5s really deserve the praise they get, but the A2s need that exaggerated bass otherwise 90% of customers would find them lacking in bass (consider the music most people listen to these days) since they have such small drivers.

    looking for new computer speakers

The Audioengines can only accept a 3.5mm input. The RCA (red and white) are OUTPUTS for hooking up a subwoofer, but surely any soundcard would have a 3.5mm output.

What should i get with $400 budget?

Pretty much any system I've seen mutes the speaker output when you plug in speakers, what's the point of having both at the same time?   I used to have the Promedia 2.1s and currently have the A5s and I can tell you that the A5s are in an entirely different world, in fact I'm confident the...

Is audioengine a5 the best stereo computer speaker in the world?

They're probably the best for computer/iPod use without having to use any other components at all in the under $500 range, at least out of what I have heard (a lot but not nearly every system in the world). To say they're the best in the world would be ridiculous, my computer setup used to be a...

    another audioengine 2 subwoofer question

I would say yes, not familiar with Energy's products but I've never heard an 8" sub I liked more than a 10" it will definitely play lower, if you listen to any rap, hip hop, electronic, house, dubstep etc. you will appreciate every bit of bass extension you can get.

    another audioengine 2 subwoofer question

I would get the matching Audioengine sub if I were you (and in fact am planning on doing just that for my A5s). It has RCA in and then back out so you plug your source (3.5mm or RCA) into the sub and then RCA from the sub to the Audioengines.   BUT, you can use any other sub you want as long...

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!

Quote: The Onkyo speakers I'm using are definitely lower quality than the Audioengines, but I do like my current setup more for one reason. I'm pretty tall and sit high up in relation to the desk and speakers, right now the top 5.25" driver on the Onkyos is at my ear level so the tweeters...

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!

The iMac is 27" to give a size reference, though this crowd is probably more familiar with the size of the HD650s. I gave my Audioengine A5s to my brother and have been experimenting with a few speakers I have in the house until I get around to actually buying a new pair. These Onkyos are...

computer speakers driving me nutz cant choose

I forgot about the z2300. A friend of mine has them in his bedroom and they do sound very, very good for their extremely low price. I never A/Bd them with my Promedias (died several years ago) but I think the satellites have a similar level of detail and the sub is probably better on the...

Classical music headphones | M50s not so good

I had the HD558s briefly and liked them for classical, the increased soundstage and bass of the HD598 could only make them even better.   I agree, classical music is definitely a bit beyond the M50s and I rarely admit they have any faults.

Can you tell the difference between: FLAC + MP3 + WAV ?

It depends on what you listen to but honestly a 320kbps MP3 is a pretty fine sounding music file. I listen to a lot of progressive metal (Coheed and Cambria, Dream Theater, Protest the Hero, etc.) and in extremely complex, layered passages a 128kbps MP3 is pretty easily distinguished from a...
