I have just ordered a pair of AKG k612 that i will use for mostly gaming on console, and some music. Now I know i will need a external amp to help drive them to their full potential, but the DAC/amp thing is kind of confusing to me. A DAC converts digital audio to analog, the astro mix amp does...

I actually narrowed my search down using your guide. Do you think an astro mix amp, would be enough to drive either of these headphones. And it will mostly be used for gaming with occasional music.

Any help is welcome I'm thankful for it, but I'm not dead set on these 2 specific set of headphones if there are any other ones that you guys can think of im open to all suggestions. And would like more options. Like audio technica ad700 what do you guys think about those?

OK k612 has more bass than the 598. Does the 598 do anything better than the k612, and what about the k601 isn't that what the 612 is modeled after? Also, I'm really thankful for the help.
