I had a listen to the Grain Audio IEMs at Engadget Expand today and quite like them.  The bass is somewhat untamed but it also had really nice and clear treble and good separation.  I may actually get a pair, going to take another listen tomorrow and then decide.  But for $99 I think it is...

I've been loving my UE900s for the past nine months but all of a sudden this morning the right ear stopped working.  In trying to troubleshoot, I was trying to switch cables but the earpieces just would not come off plus the right housing just came apart - snapped it back together though...

These have me excited!  Love the UE sound signature (I am currently using UE700s) but never got the TF10s due to the fact I would have never gotten a decent fit in my left ear, these look like they would be better fitting.  Gonna have to wait to see how the actual street prices shake out though...

Mine just came - my very preliminary impression on first listen is I'm very impressed!  I was bracing for them to sound like crap, but they are extremely listenable!  And I haven't even tried better fitting tips yet.  I might keep the other two pairs I bought instead of giving them to the nephews.

Well all this talk got me curious, so I just sprang for three pair - one for me, and one each for the nephews. :)  If nothing else, it gives me a spare to use should (when) something happen to my UE700s and buys time for me to decide my next higher end IEMs.

After a couple more days, I am liking them even more - have heard details in my music that I have not heard before and very good soundstage.  I had super.fi 5s (the newer version now called the UE600s) and the UE 700s are much better.  Excellent phone for the $130 I paid for them.

So I got the UE700s.  Overall I am really liking the clarity and separation on these.  Not shrill on the treble except on my U2 stuff, of which I have lots so if it starts to really bug me I might have to look elsewhere.  Bass is pretty good too.  Has to fit right to get the full benefit - just...

Hmm, interesting...I'm looking at possible repair/replacement of mine under warranty, and also bought them at J&R...suspect J&R's "call for" pricing is indeed the reason for denial, rather than fake goods...
