As I am only allowed to list one album and it seems to be  a rock selection that's required then the best ever album in that genre was 'Love - Forever Changes'. Certainly not the biggest selling but the best by far.

Both bands feature highly in my "Most Over Rated Band Ever List".   Without George Martin, The Beatles would have been Herman's Hermits Mk 1. The Velvets said a lot more on one album than Floyd did in their whole career. Music for mental masturbation.
