Orthodynamic Roundup
I don't think TDS-15's have the potential of other drivers (without serious modification perhaps as @micon pointed out) hence not putting more effort into them. Customer likes the build, anyway. We all hear differently, hard to gauge how someone will react. I offered the buyer free returns if he...- khbaur330162

Probably the latter. I don't think they resolve quite as well either. Sorry, don't mean to ruffle feathers, just sharing.- khbaur330162

Orthodynamic Roundup
I have recently sold a transplanted TDS-15 on eBay to a happy customer. My build was maybe HD-650 level with tonality deficiencies, imho (weak bass). Should be noted I transplanted mine into full cup Sennheiser frame (HD535). They are a curiosity, for sure. I would put KH-100's in a completely...- khbaur330162

Show us your vintage headphones!
Oh, whoa. These headphones are celebrities. I was unaware. Yes, yes. I opened up the little TRS plug / ?transformer case? and in doing so found both channels are fine. If I reinstall the other 1/2 of the clamshell design it pushes on one of the transformers and it shorts out. I have not yet...- khbaur330162

No, I am not sure. Actually, the fact that it is not the TDS-16/40 I am fairly certain it was a PMB-6, or something similar. I only bought a few European ortho's, so I'm guessing it's a PMB model. Which exact one I am not sure as it was so long ago. But I do agree with you @ludoo if you give...- khbaur330162

Ok, I finally got around to opening the ATH-M2's. I don't think the drivers match @ludoo 's TDS-16/40's despite similarities, so what these drivers actually are I still don't know. I have been listening to these on and off for the past few days and they are growing on me. Very nice tuning...- khbaur330162

I put these mini Ether pads on them. Honestly they are well balanced and lack the "boxy" effect you speak of with your pair. They sound more open to me. Bass has decent grip and reaches pretty low. Pretty enjoyable listen. I might have to open these up and see if we can identify the source of...- khbaur330162

Have you measured the driver on TDS-16? I was under the impression it was 55mm. -edit- Sorry, I am thinking of TDS-16 16Ohm. I have a pair of TDS-16/40's (I think this is what they are) inside an ATH-M2 housing, actually. Horribly insensitive drivers. Could be fun portables if not for the...- khbaur330162

Orthodynamic Roundup
Hey all. Just thought I'd throw a pic out there of my latest project: For those who don't recognize the drivers, they are from a Yamaha HP-1000. I was able to land a pair for a decent price (best price I've seen any HP/YH-1000 go for). Damping these has been interesting. They like more...- khbaur330162

You can try adding more cup filler to the right driver housing only (small amount), it should even out the bass between channels.- khbaur330162

Me too. Yamaha obviously was putting a lot of attention towards the flux plates for a while, trying different alloys and treatment processes it appears. All of this is to keep the magnetic flux compact and saturated over the diaphragms. Whether or not they changed the ceramic ferrite formulation...- khbaur330162

More thoughts on YH-100 production variations So far I've seen: # flux plate type ground pin type 2 matte Copper 1 matte Silver 1 brushed steel Silver 4 shiny Silver If anybody sees this who owns a YH-100 and is willing to open them up to verify production era and serial number...- khbaur330162

Impressions | aune AR5000 Full-Size Open Headphones with MLD Driver
I really like the angled drivers, I have come to like this feature in other headphones. I like the careful consideration of backwave, I believe this has much to do with detail. One thing I wish you had considered was leather earpads. It is much easier to clean leather earpads than suede...- khbaur330162

The Stax Thread III
Pads are pretty personal, so if you're not into this I totally get it. I've had very good experiences with these pads on a few different DIY builds of mine. I think given their price, if they come in a size that fits 007, I say why not give them a try. Very good acoustic properties ime. The...- khbaur330162
