    Testing for SPEED in IEM's - please participate in my test! [speed-metal / visual-kei / symphonic-metal / instrumental / electric-guitar shredding]

right..  I guess the question is more of how to establish a set of terms and their meanings, and then for the community to adopt the vocabulary (and use it properly).  Production people spend years learning the vocabulary and their subtle meanings, and more or less arrive at a surprisingly...

    Testing for SPEED in IEM's - please participate in my test! [speed-metal / visual-kei / symphonic-metal / instrumental / electric-guitar shredding]

I agree with..  I'd just add that perhaps data isn't limited to measurements from equipment..  like most of the production community has no problem describing outboard gear or software plugins with words.  But there are specific terms, which guessing from your previous posts, you may be familiar...

    Testing for SPEED in IEM's - please participate in my test! [speed-metal / visual-kei / symphonic-metal / instrumental / electric-guitar shredding]

First of all, I think this thread is awesome and I love the idea of testing a bunch of cans / iems at the same time.  The following may sound a bit harsh, but I want to give my 2 cents as a production person..   imho I think this test should be taken with a grain of salt..  the results are...

    Testing for SPEED in IEM's - please participate in my test! [speed-metal / visual-kei / symphonic-metal / instrumental / electric-guitar shredding]

Quote: I'm listening to the one with just the audio.  Ya, the live video one has better sound, I think the bitrate difference has a lot to do with it. (other than just a better mix for the live ver)  I guess on some phones the stuff could get garbled, dunno..  I tend to avoid them.  ...

    Testing for SPEED in IEM's - please participate in my test! [speed-metal / visual-kei / symphonic-metal / instrumental / electric-guitar shredding]

what in the world are you guys talking about...  The speed of the content isn't a good measure of "speed".  Fast metal can get chaotic, and that sort of sonic layering can test response time, but that's not necessarily because of the tune's speed..   A more accurate check is how responsive...

Why are audio stuff so expensive?

well, you'd be surprised at how much R&D goes into synths, and the craftsmanship required for an amp.     Of course, the same economic gradient works for these things as well.  Low end synths probably have higher markup compared to high end synths, and the high volume sales of the lower end...

Recommendations for a 7 year old

I would not recommend IEM for kids.  It's hard enough for adults to get a good seal, if the seal isn't right, it may make them crank up the volume, or just make for a bad experience.  I'd stick with headphones.

Why are audio stuff so expensive?

You also have to remember that originally, IEMs were created for on stage monitoring, and continue to become the standard in stage monitoring.  Then the question becomes, "why is industrial grade equipment so expensive?"     Though I believe the line has blurred between pro grade IEM and...

    My questions to an audiologist

Here are some of my questions feel free to pick and choose, or toss them all out:   1. Considering how many former hearing aid professionals are entering the iem field, is there some sort of technology sharing / production knowhow sharing that's benefiting the hearing aid industry? (which...

    IEM for stage and tracking

sounds good!  finding me a nearby audiologist!  I wish they'd just give you 3D data of the things so you can duplicate and give out copies instead... I had one taken for older custom ones, would be so much quicker if I could reuse that mold. hehe.

    IEM for stage and tracking

Quote: Have you used them for tracking or stage monitoring?  I'm also looking at Westone customs since they're still in the affordable range..  not cheap tho!

    IEM for stage and tracking

1 week.. really.  I need something for first week of Nov, so maybe they might make it in time..  kinda tough call though, as I don't want to be stuck waiting for JH-5 and have no monitors if they don't get made in time...

    IEM for stage and tracking

Sure, "IEM" stands for in ear monitors.. but with the influx of "monitors" targeted for consumer listening and general listening pleasure, the term "monitor" seems to have lost its meaning.  That's why I'm asking which ones truely are reference monitor grade.  There are consumer speakers...

    IEM for stage and tracking

whoa, no $hit...  Jerry Harvey?  That guy seriously kicks, esp with his new series from the JH audio brand..    Didn't know he's got 2 driver units now.  JH-5 definitely looks like a great deal at $399.

    IEM for stage and tracking

Hey all, first post.  I've always turned to head-fi for awesome community knowledge..   My Ety ER-4P that I was using for on stage and also for tracking broke..  actually, I've already have 2 of them fail on me in past 2 years, always the Y section of the cable breaking.  So I want to get...
